Snape should have realized when he felt extremely reluctant to wake up that something was wrong. It was not often that getting out of bed was actually a problem. When the pain seeped in through a sleep soaked mind, however, suspicions that should have been were quickly formed and confirmed. Muggles called this sort of head pain migraine, but wizards had another name and reason for this thing. The cures were different in the world of magic also, but that was a mute point when the afflicted refused to move. There was something about the hospital wing, which made a person feel as if on display. Many self respecting Slytherins tried to avoid that scenario like the proverbial plague. Snape was certainly one of these.
Names and reasons hardly mattered. The only real thing for Severus at this moment was he was not going anywhere, not until he could outlast this thing that was plaguing him now. Fortunately, all the others boys in his dorm had barely even noticed or cared that Snape had stayed in bed. There seemed to be an unspoken code of silence among them, one that was convenient most of the time, though now and then it it was rather lonely. No one asked and no one was pressured to tell. It was especially useful for those who where planning to ally oneself with the dark lord after graduation, for these especially were on tenuous ground so to speak.
With these thoughts in mind, Severus found himself looking forward to nothing more or less than a day alone fighting the pain within. He had no clue that this happenstance event was about to turn his life upside down. In fate, fate was only moments away and Snape had no idea that it was coming. Who could have guessed what was to be?
