What were those steps to grief, denial, acceptance and... anxiety?
Ginny had been walking around school thinking that her answers were just seemingly going to pop up, like there was n-o w-a-y she had gone loony, hallucinating or any other mental absurdity that labeled her nutty. But with the anxiety built on her face like she was ready to burst out crying she retreated to one of the only places that could ever confirm her atrocious suspicions. The trophy room.
Gryffindor had won the Quidditch Cup for two years consecutively, and every year there was a framed picture of the winning Quidditch team. That included a blow up of the star player, in this case, Harry. She knew that no one would really relieve her of the notions being paraded down the halls as people screamed for where either Lily, James, Molly or even Arthur were. These were names she didn't really sit well with while in Hogwarts, two of them were pressumably dead and the other two hardly ever went by their first name basis in her school. No, she was done with it. Ron had no answers, and as of yet she hadn't bumped with one soul she knew from her own year or any other for that matter. The trophy room was the only safe bet to some sanity.
As she walked in, she was somewhat hesitant, realizing yet hoping, that pictures wouldn't lie. Making her final step toward the mantled case, she opened her eyes as though it was meant to be a surprise when she noticed that yes the cup had been won by Gryffindor the previous year. But when she turned to the team picture, she was no where in it, and for that matter neither was Harry or Dean or anyone else she knew. As she tried gripping the twisting stomach feeling she felt it only got worse when she say the MVP frame. It wasn't Harry, it was James Potter.

Severus found himself thinking intently over the most interesting new events throughout the school. First, there was a most intense conversation with Lily, one that may or may not completely change the course of his life. Then there was a meeting with a brunette named Hermione Granger, which became a confrontation with Sirius Black and a sighting of a green eyes boy who was not James Potter, though he looked remarkably like him. There were words about exchange students or something of the sort, but Snape was not sure. Thoughts turned into a long wandering walk, and the walk led him to the trophy room.
Here, Severus saw red hair near a trophy case. Moving quietly, Severus approached the girl carefully to not alert his close friend of his presence or startle her in any way. Once he was within hugging distance, Severus finally spoke. "Hey Lily," he said as if addressing an old friend. "I was thinking about what we were talking about earlier, and I've ..." Just then he had looked up to capture her green eyes in his black eyes, realizing for the first time that the girl he had approached was not Lily Evans.
The boy took a step back. "You must be one of those exchange students," Snape concluded aloud. She was Gryffindor, like Lily and looked near her year, and yet Snape was certain he had never seen this girl anywhere before. She looked a bit like that Weasley boy from a few years back. As much as he hated it, the next step would be to introduce himself. He has never had to say his own name as many times as he had to this week, and Severus found himself hoping this time of introductions would soon have its end. On the plus side, though, if she was anything like the Granger girl, this other new one would be far more open minded than those already here. It was certainly worth the try. "Severus Snape," he finally offered, letting the name go as if he did not hate it and everything it stood for. "And who might you be?" He looked at her through Black eyes which were guarded, but not hostile, through a curtain of lank greasy hair. It was Snape, just not as angry and bitter as the one who would become potions master many heart breaks after this day.

Suddenly a voice startled her, it wasn't of a familiar student so the voice was that much more shaking as she turned to look straight into the dark eyes of a greasy haired and pale slytherin. She could only immediately tell his house due to the bright green emblem that rested on his robe. Her eyes had widened at first but his more immediate reaction caught her off guard. An actually nice slytherin? She didn't know such students even existed with them being cocky, obnoxious, belligerent and all. But before any of her more defensive mannerisms exploded on the boy, she just took a few steps back, realizing their was significantly small distance between them.
'Exchange Students'
What had this bloke been talking about? Ginny only quickly pieced the two thoughts together when she saw James' face in the MVP frame for Quidditch. The fact that he even called her as Lily, wasn't that the name of Harry's mother? She knew the name seemed familiar now, it was some of the few names she remembered well enough since they had to do with Harry. The fact that she was mistaken for her was even more startling. She soon made out the connection, the rough glares and stares, not to mention she knew no one else other than Ron. It had been a few days at this point and she wondered if she would ever see her friends again, even more her family... or even Harry. Oddly, while other girls would have probably wanted to cry at this point, Ginny just wanted to scream out of sheer angst. Before she even thought of making a ridicule of herself, she froze herself and just continued to listen, trying to be as polite as humanly possible.
The name that he said next seemed to throw shivers up her back, "Severus Snape" it was unbelievable but true. She, along with Ron for the moment, were actually somehow zapped into an old era. What almost felt natural was to expect both Molly and Arthur to stroll in and casually greet Ginny when neither one knew they were eventually going to be her parents. It was shocking, but she couldn't really go off getting surprised every now and then. So while keeping a calm expression she resisted the urge to glare at Snape considering he was meant to be one of the oddest and brutal potions teachers of her generation. "V-Very nice to meet you Severus. I'm sorry if I somehow confused you for..uhm... Lily...I-I -- I'm Ginny Wea-----ze. Ginny Weaze. And yes, I happen to be an exchange student. I suppose I stand out that much, don't I?" she asked a bit sheepishly, trying not to ruin her current stack of lies. While she wasn't entirely sure how much of a good liar she had been known to be, now wasn't the time to doubt on it. She couldn't go off telling people she was related to a Weasley when any one of them could have easily proven her wrong. No, she had to play it safe...for now.

V-Very nice to meet you Severus. I'm sorry if I somehow confused you for..uhm... Lily...I-I -- I'm Ginny Wea-----ze. Ginny Weaze. And yes, I happen to be an exchange student. I suppose I stand out that much, don't I?"
Her reaction of fear was slightly amusing. Snape knew he was getting a name for himself, but aside from first years, it was not that often he got such a good reaction, even from Gryffindors. It was both partly amusing and partly worrisome. Wat were these new kids hearing anyway? It looked like it might be time to try to gain a bit of control on the rumor mill. It was one thing to be feared to a small extant. That kept a person from being attacked in the hall by would be heroes. It was another thing to be so infamous that kids ran from the hall wherever one went. There was a difference, after all, in being respected and being the monster loose in the school.
"Ginny Weaze," he said, not even thinking to question the name. "A pleasure." Severus found himself wondering if all of the new ones were just routed straight to Gryffindor or if they actually had a sorting process as if those who had been here from first year had done. The former seemed unfair, both for the kids involved as well as for the other houses not privy to the new blood. "Not too many red heads," the boy confirmed. "Just yourself, Lily and a few Weasleys." Snape did not know what sort of family she belonged to, but she was not one of the Weasleys at least. As he did with the Granger girl, he would assume she had the bloodline until she proved differently. It was a good thing that young Snape was not as good a legilimens as he would prove to be later on in life. For now, he was just learning the discipline and her nervousness was like a white noise, blotting much of her emotions from his sight.
"So, um Ginny, how about a tour of the school?" Yeah, right, that was lame Severus. Why not ask her to a root beer social next or something, or perhaps a sock hop? Well, the words were out not, there was nothing he could do but wait for the girl to accept or decline the invitation. Surely this one would not be interrupted too, like the one where he tried to help the brunette to her feet. Severus looked down, hiding the anxiety threatening to show on his eyes. It was not like he was talking to Lily, so why the reaction?
