general appearance Remus has many scars on his body, despite the employment of well used healing magic on him over the years. His Lycanthropy has seen to it more than anything: as a child, in Hogwarts, when he was sent alone to what was later dubbed 'The Shrieking Shack', he bit and scratched himself while he had no other beings to attack in his altered state of mind. The amount of scars from self inflicted wounds he's given himself over the years, at the very least, do pale in comparison to the amount of injuries he's sustained. The physical stress of the transformations have also wreaked havoc on his body.
Remus' eyes, almost inhuman in brightness, are rarely seen without dark circles under them, a combination of his lycanthropy and honest stress, though his blue eyes always carry a kind, warm light. He appears thin and often sickly, although his body is wrapped in lean muscle. It is rare to see Remus in any informal clothing, jeans or tee shirts, and on that note just as rare to see him wearing anything new. Income has always been difficult for the man to come by, often denied jobs because of his ailment, and Remus was never one to accept charity, so his appearance was often one that could be described as 'shabby'. HIs hair is shaggy, reaching midway past his ears, and graying a bit already.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

likes,
-teaching, harry, the order of the phoenix, (misses) the other two marauders, nymphadora tonks, honeyduke's finest (when he can afford it), flying, reading, summer nights, molly weasley's cooking
dislikes, fenrir greyback, voldemort, unnecessary prejudices, winter, being in a position where he must ask others for help, full moons, the goblins at gringott's - very rude, the thought of losing the war, death eaters, mending clothes
strengths, fantastic teacher, self control, thoughtful
weaknesses, poor self esteem, quiet, relies on very expensive potions just to keep his state of mind right
worst fear, losing harry, losing the war
boggart, the night he was attacked and infected by fenrir
amortenia, forests, baked goods, cedar
sexuality, straight, and he has his eye on one particular person. unfortunately, however, he feels so strongly that he's not right for her, nor anyone, that he pushes these feelings aside
overall personality, Remus is nothing if not calm. He's learned self control over the years, and it has suited him well, thinking through situations before acting instead of rushing headlong into things. His kind and mild nature has also made him a wonderful professor, patiently leading his students through problems, rewarding them for their successes. And his time spent as a Marauder has left him with a particularly acute sense of humor, much to the delight of his students.
Although he was not named Harry's Godfather, he feels an intense responsibility for his safety and well being, especially after Sirius' death. He hopes to be able to act as a mentor to the boy, at the very least, and has doubly committed himself to the Order as well, as his help in the order only serves to help Harry. He's had some doubts lately as to Dumbledore's strategy in leading a child up to defeat Voldemort, but he's also trusted in the Headmaster enough not to ask question. Albus always had something up his sleeve and always had their best intentions in mind as he saw it, and it was not his place to ask questions. Given he owed the man his very life as well, any misgivings about his choices of judgment were kept to himself.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall history, Remus spent the first few years of his life as any young boy would. His parents loved him dearly, he was often pushing the boundaries of their rules, and always snubbing his vegetables. His parents were middle class, working average jobs--his mother at a local restaurant and his father at the Ministry of Magic, serving with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Neither were particularly high paying jobs, but they saw the bills paid and the family fed. It wasn't until his father had a particularly nasty run in with the werewolf Fenrir Greyback that things changed for Remus, and drastically. The werewolf took revenge on John for his insults by attacking his son and only child. Remus was infected with lycanthropy, and from then on his life became considerably more difficult.
His parents had a difficult time attending to his needs after that, or more specifically, they had difficulty looking after him during his transformations. They ended up having to lock him up every month and, right afterwards, take him straight to St. Mungo's for treatment of his own self inflicted injuries. They cared for him in every way they could, but the disease created a wedge between the family that grew deeper and wider as the years passed. It was the very start of Remus' dwindling self esteem. He was suddenly shunned and feared by their neighbors, who were afraid he'd attack them and their families. It wasn't until he went to Hogwarts that he had friends again, and found them in the Marauders. It was funny how such confident, outgoing people could find a reason to accept the quiet boy, but they did, and Remus clung to their friendship ever since then.
When the First War struck it was like Fenrir's attack all over again, for it shook his entire world. Even at the end of it, he was not able to pick up the pieces for some time. One of his best friends was murdered, betrayed by one of the people they trusted, the other was in Azkaban, and although Voldemort was finally dead--or so they thought--he'd left behind the deaths of far too many good people. He didn't even feel as though his life was beginning to get back on track until he was invited to teach at Hogwarts and was reunited not only with his friend's son, but with Sirius as well. It's clear that Remus has seen and known a lot of hardships in his life, but also a lot of wonderful things, the things that kept him going through it all. As much of a shock it was to find himself and so many others suddenly moved to the past as it was, he hoped they would be able to use it to change the past. Perhaps this time the future wouldn't have to be so bleak.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
