Couldn't take the blame, sick with shame,
must be exhausting to lose your own game,
selfishly hated - no wonder you're jaded,
you can't play the victim this time, and you're too late.

general appearance Lily's appearance is always neat and orderly. Even on a lazier morning-or a more rushed one-she manages to make her hair look nice, keep her uniform free of wrinkles, and even put on a bit of color. Even without make up, though, Lily always felt comfortable with her appearance, and honestly spent more time with books than blush. The Gryffindor was always on the shorter side, the shortest in her family and shorter than most of the other students, which more than likely accounted for a lot of the fire in her personality, and because she had always been more of a bookworm than an athlete, her frame is on the softer, much less muscular side. She has often mentioned, jokingly, that she would get much more of a work out actually carrying her books (without the use of a Feather Weight Charm) from class to class than the Gryffindor Quidditch Team ever got during their practices.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall personality, At the very core of her personality, Lily is good natured and, in turn, tries to find the good in everyone. She immediately hated the deep set rifts between Houses and families in the wizarding world, the way people judged each other without knowing each other, and the first thing she did was try to find common ground among the Houses. She made friends with any and everyone, and although that earned her off looks and disdain from some of the students, most seemed to like the effort. As far as Lily was concerned, everyone deserved a clean slate to go into school with. Why were people being pegged for certain things because of what their parents or grandparents did right when they walked through the door?
Besides being the 'free love' girl in Hogwarts, she also gave her tutoring-and her opinion-freely. It was probably why no one was surprised that, once she became a Seventh Year, she was chosen as Head Girl. She always took a position of authority, whether she was doing her best to keep the Marauders in check or helping younger students, even before she was named Prefect for the first time. Although she wasn't a member of the Quidditch Team or part of any clubs, (she never counted the Slug Club), she made a big impact on Hogwarts while she was there.
Because Lily was always so often associated with rules and studying, she was generally considered to have a boring personality. Sure she was firey, but did she ever do anything fun? It never bothered her, the assumptions that went around the school about her, but instead made her smile inwardly. She supposed perhaps her idea of fun was boring, but then the students hardly knew her outside of Hogwarts. And there, when she wasn't worried about school work or keeping people to the rules, she could have lots of fun. People just never saw past the Prefect.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

CHAPTER ONE: BIRTH
Lily Marie Evans, youngest daughter of two beautiful girls, was born on the outskirts of London in a simple but beautiful middle class neighborhood. She tended to keep to herself besides playing with her sister, but was nevertheless a happy child. Their father was a salesman and brought home the sole income for the family, while their mother stayed at home to look after their children. There, she homeschooled the two girls until Lily went off to Hogwarts.
Now looked up to her sister, who was beautiful in every way and so smart and compassionate: they shared secrets, played games, and caused trouble around the house and never argued. She never had a reason to go out and look for other friends, which was alright with her: even when she was a little girl, she was different than the rest of the children. Kind and friendly as she was, she never seemed to fit in with them: only Petunia was there for her no matter what, and appreciated Lily's unique personality and the mannerisms she'd fondly call her 'quirks'. Things went on well that way for years until Lily showed her first signs of magic; then everything changed.
CHAPTER TWO: CHILDHOOD
Petunia, either frightened or jealous - or perhaps a bit of both, took poorly to Lily's new powers and the 'tricks' she could play. Lily's parents were always very proud of her, but the elder Evans daughter slowly drifted further and further away from her sister as the years passed. However, Lily was not entirely alone until she went to Hogwarts: she met another child her age, a boy in the neighborhood who seemed to have the same quirks as she did. His name was Severus, and although Petunia seemed to have an immediate aversion to him, Lily was intrigued. It turned out that she and the boy had more than just quirks in common: he could do magic too.
Lily was ecstatic to find that she had another person just like her nearby, and ever since their first meeting in the park, he became the best friend Petunia no longer wanted to be. It was with he whom she shared her secrets, cuddled up with under the covers and read with, and went down to the park with. They talked about books, games, and family, but most of all they talked about magic. Lily learned a lot about Hogwarts and the world she would soon be a part of from her new friend, and by the time she got to Hogwarts, she was nearly bursting with excitement.
CHAPTER THREE: SCHOOL
Hogwarts was everything she'd dreamed and more. She hit the ground running so to speak and found herself at the top of her classes with Severus. They still spent a lot of time together, going to the library and sharing stories about their classes, and he taught her how to use Owl Post, even though he fumbled a little from inexperience. All in all, it was a learning experience for them both.
Although they were, unfortunately, sorted into different Houses, Severus kept to his promise to see her no differently than he ever had, even when other students certainly proved every day that he hadn't been lying about Pureblood Supremacy. It was ghastly indeed the things that came out of some people's mouths, things she'd barely heard until then. Either it was a Slytherin telling someone they were trash for being born in a family of Muggles, or one of the 'Marauders' telling Slytherins they were trash for being born to elitists. Or, of course, for being born with the name 'Severus Snape'. The drama that focused around something so simple to her was unnerving at first, but she learned to live with it, though never to accept it.
She shrugged off the insults, secure in the group of friends she made in Gryffindor House and in herself. She didn't need anyone telling her who she was or what she should be doing, especially not when she was squashing them in the practice of the very thing they said she had no right to participate in. More than likely, she always figured, they were simply jealous that a girl who'd hardly been exposed to magic as a child could do so much better than them. It didn't get so easy, though, when Severus, Lily, and their group of friends entered their upper level courses.
Outside the secure walls of Hogwarts a darkness was gathering: an awful wizard who called himself Voldemort, but was known only as You-Know-Who by the frightened Wizarding Community was gaining power quickly. It was the corridor bullying magnified by one thousand: this man actually meant to murder people, and murder he did. And within them, students stirred: the ones who were the cruelest to her were now seeming to cling to this new menace, enthused in their blind hate. Their persecution of their classmates excelled, and what was once name calling became full on attacks on other classmates. Although they were typically careful enough to keep their actions small enough not to be expelled--or covered up enough for them not to be noticed--it was a well-known fact that the school was not the sunny place it used to be. Even Severus, it seemed, had taken to that darker side...
CHAPTER FOUR: LOVE
Despite seeming to be a red headed siren in the school (without even the slightest inkling of trying to get boys' attention) Lily never had a boyfriend. Perhaps it was because she would read her books with Severus while the other girls tittered about, doing their hair and plotting their latest fling, or perhaps it was because Potter's attention-seeking antics thoroughly deterred her from any interest in the male students. Whatever the reason, Lily didn't think about it much. Or at least, she didn't seem to.
There certainly were boys she found attractive. James Potter, though she'd never admit it, had a sort of rugged sexiness about him that she couldn't ignore--that was to say, when he wasn't insulting or hexing another student, or in any other way acting like a complete arse. There was also her best friend: True he had a slightly more unkempt appearance than the others (that was always completely exaggerated in her opinion), but he was her friend through thick and thin, and long before Hogwarts. And even though he'd betrayed her trust, had called her that awful name, there was something in the back of her mind that wished things had turned out differently. Sometimes, she almost wanted to throw away her anger and hug him, accept the apologies he'd been so desperately trying to give her. Who knew? Perhaps they did have a chance at patching up their friendship once more. Perhaps their world had a chance of returning to the way it was before Grindlewald and Voldemort stepped in.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The summer between Fifth and Sixth Year was particularly trying for one Miss Lily Evans. On the one hand, her sister's insults and jibes had only become much worse as she began bringing her fiance, Vernon Dursley, over more often. Lily didn't think she could ever find someone who despised magic any more than her sister, and was disappointed when she found out otherwise during what was supposed to be a quiet family dinner. It wasn't think she could be angered at her parents for not stopping them, either: her mother had become very ill during her last school year, and her health took a turn for the worst during the summer, leaving Lily feeling guilty even for returning to school the following September. And although nothing more could have surpassed her mother's illness and her sister's continued hate, there was one other token to that summer that made it all the worse:
Severus.
Or rather the lack of Severus. They'd barely spoken a word to eachother since what she coined 'The Incident', and she didn't even see him at all during the summer, despite living so close by one another. At the end of Fifth Year, she thought things would be fantastic if she didn't have to see or speak to him at all, but as time drew on she began to worry about him and what he could be up to and who with, and most of all she missed her friend. She'd already made it plain to him that words would not sway her into forgetting the awful thing he'd said to her, but she still couldn't help but miss how things used to be: the late nights watching movies and cuddling under the blanket, playing at the park, or simply talking.
She didn't have quite the same friendship with anyone else, not even the girls she spent most all of her school life with. As much as she was still very upset with Severus, something in her hoped they'd get a chance to talk soon: of course, she wasn't budging and it would have to be him who got lucky and caught her in the corridors and not the other way around. After all, no matter how much he apologized he was still entirely to blame. Right?
The ride to Hogwarts was rather uneventful, and by the time they entered the Great Hall to await the Sorting Ceremony, she was nearly falling asleep at the table. The summer and all of its stresses had taken their toll on her, and as much as she wished she could still be home to help look after her mother, she was grateful that she could now focus on her studies once again. Hot food and a good night's rest and she'd be back in the game.
Lily perked up a bit as the new students filed nervously in, smiling kindly and clapping particularly enthusiastically when students were Sorted into her House, craning her neck to get a good look at their faces. After all, for the next year they'd be like her children, and she'd need to know all of their names and faces. But with the last student called and Sorted, the scroll rolled up and the Hat returned to its room behind the Great Hall, Lily's stomach loudly reminded her of its true purpose in attending the Welcoming Feast.
She smiled apologetically to the person next to her, for it was a particularly loud grumble, and focused her attention back at the front of the room where Dumbledore was beginning to give his start of term speech. She realized it was always the same thing every year, but out of respect for the Headmaster--and as a good show for the other students on how to behave--she paid close attention to every word. Until he summoned the food, of course: then when asked about him she might have responded in a completely different manner. 'Albus who?'
As students began to dig in with reckless abandon, she paused for a moment to calculate her options before choosing a lamb steak, mashed potatoes and a large helping of salad. "Would you please pass a roll?" she asked of the person next to her whilst pouring a goblet of pumpkin juice, quite out of the way for her to reach. How could she have such a fine meal without warm bread?- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
