general appearance
Well, overall, Remus is a fairly scrawny guy. He's extremely tall, but he doesn't eat all that much nor is he one for working out, so there isn't much muscle or fat on him, which would attribute to his rather small weight despite his height (I used a weight chart in order to determine this - 153 lbs. is on the lower end for a healthy weight of a 6'0 male). He has short, sandy brown hair that he usually keeps maintained and groomed pretty well, and green-gray almond shaped eyes. He has pale skin, and when not found wearing his school robes, he can be seen wearing jeans and sweaters and/or sweatervests. But either way, Remus tends to reveal as little skin as possible due to the innumerable scars he has received due to his monthly transformations into a werewolf.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall personality,
To just cut to the chase, there are many words that could describe Remus Lupin. He's thoughtful, sweet, calm, tolerant, and naturally gentle. This is a boy who's almost always level-headed and can always be counted on to act well under pressure. He also always does his best to see the good in other people, mainly because he knows that he only hopes that others do the same due to his being a werewolf. Due to this he has an extremely forgiving nature and he can hardly stay mad at someone for more than five minutes. He has a soft-spoken voice and can be considered to be more mature than other boys his age, though that's beginning to change as, in their final year, the other males are starting to shape up. On the other side of him, he can be reasonably shrewd and has a mischievous sense of humor - can't be a Marauder without that. But he really only displays his more devilish side (if one could even possibly think of Remus as devilish) around his true friends, and to others he is most civil and quiet.
He was sorted into Gryffindor, which of course means that he must have some bravery in him. He does, really, because he has the sort of loyalty that gives him courage in tough situations. Because his friends show such loyalty to him, Remus is always certain that he must return the favor. So it's not so difficult to figure out that he will always stand by his friends, especially in a moment of need, which is mostly where his bravery stems from. Because, in a way, Remus can also be a bit of a coward. He despises confrontations and hates being seen as the bad guy, so a lot of the time he doesn't enforce his prefect status for fear of being seen as a powerhungry, vicious authority figure. This means that, when his friends get into mischief and into bullying other people (which they don't do nearly as much as they did before), Remus often doesn't have the heart to stop them. Also, him being extremely paranoid about others finding out his condition make him a coward in that way too, in that he's very particular about opening up to other people for fear of getting hurt or hurting someone else or being abandoned.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall history,
There really isn't anything extraordinary about the manner in which Remus' parents met, seeing as the pair of them met at Hogwarts, dated for five years (two of which were after they graduated) before marrying and giving birth to a glowing baby boy who they dubbed Remus John Lupin. For the first few years of his life, he was fawned over and loved like none other, and everything was shaping up to be peaceful and normal in the Lupin family.
Until, of course, Fenrir Greyback came along. Jonathan Lupin was enjoying a drink at the Leaky Cauldron one night when Greyback came in for a drink himself. Most of the patrons knew not to mess with the temperamental werewolf, but when the boastful beast was talking about a muggle girl he'd killed the past week amongst some of his "friends" and Jonathan happened to overhear. Needless to say, a fight nearly broke out in the Leaky Cauldron that night if it hadn't been for Tom the bartender, who'd banished Greyback from the pub that night and promptly told him to never come back. Outraged, Greyback took to getting revenge to show Lupin that he wasn't some pup who could easily be shooed away, and after a few days of spying on the family, he decided to wound Jonathan in the best way he knew how. One moonlight night, Greyback attacked young Remus, who was only four at the time, and effectively mauled the poor boy, giving him the lycanthropy curse. In the two weeks that remained before the full moon, while Remus recovered, Jonathan and Antonia did everything they possibly could to find their son a cure. But it was all in vain, when on the first night of the full moon, when Remus was only four, transformed into a werewolf and severely injured one of his nurses at the hospital.
Soon afterwards Remus had to be registered amongst the Ministry as a werewolf, and immediately everything in Remus' life changed. His parents, though they loved him dearly, became slightly detached from their son, almost fearing him. They raised him with as much compassion as they could, but every full moon they kept the poor boy in a cage in their locked basement, listening to his howls and the rattling of his cage every night during that time. As he approached his eleventh birthday, Jonathan and Antonia were afraid that Professor Dumbledore wouldn't allow Remus to attend Hogwarts because of his condition, but in fact it was quite different. The professor had become aware of Remus' condition and had the Whomping Willow planted as a precaution to protect the young werewolf during the full moon. He came to the Lupin home on Remus' eleventh birthday to explain the situation himself, and to hand deliver Remus' acceptance letter to Hogwarts.
Ecstatic that someone was accepting him for who he was, Remus went to Hogwarts and almost immediately befriended James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. The four of them soon became known as the Marauders, as many might know. As a first year, he kept his status as a werewolf a secret from all the students at Hogwarts, including his new friends James, Sirius, and Peter, and made up stories to explain his monthly disappearances, like how his mother was ill and he needed to go home to visit her. He was terrified that they would desert him once they found out what he truly was. However, eventually the other three Marauders figured out his condition and, instead of turning him away, became closer to him than ever. Remus was extremely touched that they hadn't shut him out because he was a werewolf, and for the first time since he'd become a werewolf, he actually felt hope for the future. And when they all earned their nicknames among the group, his became "Moony" due to his monthly full moon transformations.
Before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Remus was sent a letter informing him and his family that he had been selected as a prefect for Gryffindor at the school. Remus had always been a good student, almost never turning in an assignment late or causing (too much, anyway) mischief, all of which might have funneled down to this massive accomplishment. It was the happiest his parents had ever been for him, and when he came to Hogwarts that year, he did his best to maintain credibility as Prefect and remain a dedicated Marauder. It was probably one of the few times in his life to date during which he felt truly appreciated as a student. Remus is now in his seventh year at Hogwarts and retains the title of Prefect. He does his best to be righteous and to keep muggleborns and halfbloods out of trouble and still remains a faithful Marauder.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Remus John Lupin was not a fan of Potions class. That much was clear as the seventh year gathered his books and stowed them into his bag with a sour expression on his face and a singed sleeve on his robes. He wasn't horrible at the subject, but not for the first time in two years he wondered why he'd even bothered taking the class. It was probably his least favorite class in all the school, and Remus had a right to say that considering as he'd taken every possible course available over the span of seven years here at Hogwarts. When asked why he took so many classes, or why he'd bother taking a class like "Muggle Studies" or "Arithmancy", the Marauder would just shrug and say that he was interested. Which, in a few cases, was not the reason he took the class at all. He was determined to learn as much as he could by the time he left Hogwarts so that hopefully when he came out into the wizarding world, employers would look past his condition and see his worth in intelligence and dedication.
But in the way his eyes were tired when he smiled, or in the way he constantly seemed to be walking like he had a weight on his shoulders, it was obvious to anyone who knew him that he wasn't in any way ready to face the outside world. Remus wanted to stay here, in Hogwarts, where he was accepted and recognized as a good student and a good friend. His parents, in all the years that they'd raised him, had made it clear that there weren't many who would turn a blind eye to his being a lycanthrope. Especially employers, whose reputations could be tarnished by associating with him. While many people here didn't know about his condition, there were some that were already wary of him because of his monthly disappearances. The excuse to those who didn't know about it was still that a family member was ill, though Remus was pretty sure that half of the people who heard that story hadn't believed it since fourth year. But hardly anyone said anything about it, or confronted him, for which the Gryffindor was grateful.
Walking through the halls with his satchel safely secured on his shoulder, and his Prefect badge proudly displayed on the front of his robes, Remus made his way up to the library to begin work on the Potions essay they'd just been assigned less than fifteen minutes ago. Other students scrambled off to their common rooms to meet with their friends before supper, but the Gryffindor steadily kept walking, pondering as he went. As he passed a statue on the fourth floor, out of the corner of his eye he spotted a couple making out and chose to ignore it. As Prefect, he probably should have stopped and deducted points for such a blatant public display, but Remus didn't really feel like being the ickle rule-enforcer at the moment and just pretended like he hadn't seen it. If another Prefect or maybe even a professor came by and noticed it, they probably would dock off points - which made Remus somewhat hope that those two students would get caught. Just not by him.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
