WHEN YOU CALL ON ME
the appearance

hair color, Dark brown
eye color, Dark Brown, often hidden by glasses.
height, 5 feet 8 inches; yes, he is aware he's short.
weight, 160 pounds
general appearance
James has always been a decent looking fellow. He knows he is too, which to some people is irksome. He has a thin build, but its muscular at the same time. His eyes, while being hidden by glasses are still fairly deep. They hide a lot of mischief and times that scream to be told of. But, at the same time, they hold compassion and loyalty. He is severely near-sighted, and so he covers his eyes with glasses, but if he is sleeping, he doesn’t have them. If he ever loses his glasses, he is very much screwed; for a lack of better words. His eyes are a deep brown, though the glasses can make a bit difficult to make it out just what color his eyes are. After one can look past his eyes, they notice his rather large nose. He was at one time sensitive about but, not anymore really. He’s not that guy anymore. He’s secure enough in his appearance to be alright with his face.
He has a straight smile, and dark hair. His hair is as dark as his eyes it seems. When at its longest, it curls a lot. The ends right back to the roots turn into a messy bounce of coils. But, he doesn’t like how large it gets, so he has been keeping it shorter. He doesn’t keep it neat, but he does keep it shorter. His clothing style is very casual, he doesn’t like to dress up much, much to the chagrin of his mother.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall personality,
Upon entering Hogwarts, James was cruel and often arrogant. He was spoiled at home, and saw nothing wrong with the way he acted. Most others never seemed to care about how arrogant he could be, but eventually he started to notice the fact he did alienate someone he did care about thanks to his arrogance. It was something that was going to be very hard to fix in his mind, but as he got older he was more able to control how he acted towards people, though he may have thought he was better than they were, knew it even, he simply learned not to show it, or say it. He had gotten better, but needless to say, he wasn’t perfect.
Mischievousness is another word that often falls from people’s mouths in regards to how he could act. He loved to cause trouble, even if he was Head Boy, he could have cared less. It just gave him a bit more leeway on what he could get away with. Though, he had Lily to answer to on occasion now, but what she didn’t know about wouldn’t hurt her, it would just hurt the people it was aimed at, though most of his pranks weren’t meant to be malicious. They were meant to be silly; he was playful, not hurtful. Unless you were Snape, then you just had it coming.
Besides being all about himself, he can be all about other people. Those close to him mean the world to him. He loves his friends; he can’t even fathom turning his back on them. He would never, could never. He would take a bullet, killing curse or otherwise for any of his close friends. His loyalty is so much so that it could in fact be deadly at some point. Right alongside his loyalty is his bravery. He won’t let anything happen to those he loved, and he won’t hesitate to throw himself on the line to save someone else.
Persistence is also something he knows. Good things come to those who wait. He learned that the hard way, as did the object of his persistence, Lily Evans. She learned long ago, he would imagine, that he wouldn’t give up. He doesn’t give up without a fight, and he has learned that thinking like that eventually will pay off, or it did this time and he is very glad of that fact.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall history,
Dorea Black and Charlus Potter were introduced during their 5th year at Hogwarts. She was a Slytherin, and he was a Gryffindor, but she wasn’t like a lot of the Slytherins he knew. He was thankful for that, being the typical Gryffindor, who didn’t like some Slytherins. The fact the girl he was interested in was like him more or less was a great thing. And, he was no issue for her family either, because he was Pure Blooded. They welcomed the Potter boy with open arms, and he was glad for that, because as it turned out, he and their daughter were more than friends, and it didn’t take long for them to get married after they graduated. They didn’t have children right away though. He was busy at his work at the ministry, and she stayed at home. The family was often seen at outings for other Pure families, and this pleased her family, but there was always a rift in the families, or slightly, the Potters didn’t see Blood Purity the way some of their families did, but they really didn’t care.
Just when the Potters thought they were too old to have children, Dorea got pregnant. She was in her mid-40s and they knew this was odd. She was glad though, despite how odd and slightly dangerous for a woman her age, but she didn’t care. She did all the Healers told her to so that she could keep herself well, and her baby just as well. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy on the 27th of March in the year 1960. His father named him James Alcaeus Potter, and he was their pride and joy from the day he was born.
James was a handful once he was able to get his bearings as a baby. He was a bit of an early walker, and a later talker. His first steps were taken behind both parent’s backs, and the first word he let them hear him say was, “No!” He didn’t want to be a difficult child, he just heard “no” a lot. He was always getting into something. “James, no! No pulling Mum’s necklace!”, “No James, do not throw those on the ground!” “No, do not throw that at those ducks!” No, no, no! So it was a natural thing for his first word to be no.
As he grew, he got to learn words other than no, but no was always one of his favorites. He spent most of the time he had alone, he didn’t like to share his toys, and he didn’t like to share his family’s attention. He could get snippy with other kids¸ even though his parents would get upset with him for that. He could have cared less; they were his parents, not his snotty cousins’ parents. They had their own, and just because his were better didn’t mean he had to share.
As he got older, he learned he had to deal with other people, but he could still be a bit selfish at times. He liked his stuff where it was, and he didn’t like to be told he was wrong or what to do. He on occasion would listen to his mother, but it was rare. He was just a difficult person. He always had been. Though, his parents told him he would have to learn to deal with people once he went to school. There were times where he told them he didn’t want to go to school. But it didn’t matter if he wanted to or not, he would have to, and once he got there, his parents knew he would change that way of thinking very quickly.
And, eventually his 11th birthday rolled around, and he was given his letter. He didn’t know how to feel about it at first. He was excited, but he was also nervous. He didn’t know what to expect. He eventually got to be more excited than nervous, and he was nearly jumping out of his skin as he reached the train. He quickly shoved off from his parents, and he ran into a friend who would soon be one of the closest he’d ever have. The boy’s name was Sirius Black, and as it turned out, he and James got on very well. The train ride to school had proven that, and it had also proven there were kids he would not get along with. Severus Snape reared his greasy head, and James was less than pleased.
As the day wore on, he met other people who would stick around him for the rest of his years at school. One such boy was Remus Lupin, another, Peter Pettigrew. Others would be made, but none held candles to these three. There was another he met on the train that day though, her name was Lily Evans, and he didn’t know at that time, but she would end up being nearly as important as his own friends turned out to be. She would end up being the love of his school existence. He was sorted into Gryffindor, like his father, and he couldn’t have been happier.
Something else it took him less than a year to discover he had a knack for was flying. He loved having the wind in his hair, and his feet off the ground. The love of flying turned into a love for Quidditch, which he tried out for, and made the team by the time he was a third year. His love was being a chaser. He loved being in the middle of the other two, cutting people off midair, stealing and passing, scoring and everything else about it. He couldn’t get enough, and as it stood now, he was on the best team the school had to offer.
Academically, he had the potential to be a very bright student. In some classes, he excelled, like Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Transfiguration. Then there were other classes she could have cared less about, like Potions. He just wasn’t that talented at Potions, but he had his friends to get him through those classes, and they were much more bearable then they had been previously.
His friendship with his friends grew to the point there wasn’t a thing they didn’t know about him, and he about them. Including a secret his friend Remus hid from the world. He was a werewolf, and that never bothered James for a moment. In fact, there was never a day that passed that James didn’t wish he could help Remus. And eventually, he and all his friends became Animagi illegally to be with Remus. They were 5th years, and that seemed beyond something they could do, but that wasn’t the case at all.
Despite the fact he had friends, his popularity brought him enemies. Severus Snape was the biggest one. They continually fought over one girl, Snape’s friend, Lily Evans. She usually wanted nothing to do with James, but eventually his charm and persistence won her over, and they weren’t enemies anymore. Though, things with Snape were as icy as ever. Though, James does nothing to help it, on the contrary really, he over enjoys stringing him up in trees, and things of the like.
And, things were much the same for James for all his years at Hogwarts. Though, over this summer, he was informed he would be Head Boy. He didn’t know where this came from, but he was very flattered to be considered for the opportunity. And, as he got back to school for the year, it seemed other things would be different, thanks to some exchange students from somewhere else. Strange it seemed, the kids didn’t really seem all that different from them, but there was something off about them, James just wasn’t able to put his finger on what it was just yet.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

roleplay sample.Normally, Al wasn't one to just run from things. Except dances, social situations in general, bugs and now to add to that list, Sirius Black's..talking junk. She didn't really want to think about it. It wasn't so much out of fear she'd run, just more out of the fact she didn't really know what to do in that situation. If all else fails, run. That was the Hufflepuff in her talking, she guessed. Loyalty was their big trait, not bravery and so whenever she felt the need to run, more often then not she did. Whether that was good or not she didn't know, but it was her plan, and she'd gotten through life thus far living by it, so she guessed she was doing alright.
Though, if the rumors were true, running wasn't going to be an option for much longer. Dark magic and its followers were supposedly growing restless and running wasn't possible from a force like that of the dark. Run all you want, but eventually it would catch up to you, and you'd have to stand, or let yourself die. Either of which sounded scary to the young Badger. She didn't like the idea of dying, but she didn't want to fight either. Sad state the world was coming to. Truly depressing indeed. But, there were positives to it really. She was protected, for the time being. She was healthy and happy. She had a decent amount of friends and even had a little crush on someone. Not that anything would ever come of it, he was a Marauder afterall, and she? Well she wasn't anything special.
Al sighed, pulling her hair up into a tight bun. She pulled her suspenders up, and she tied the back of her shirt. She pulled boots on, and she grabbed her bag, her wand falling onto the floor with a noisy clatter. She looked to see if she'd woken her roommates, but most of them seemed to still be dead to the world. It was a little early to be up on a Saturday, but she was ready to face the day now. She picked her wand up, and tossed it in her stuff. She made towards the door as quietly as she could in heels, and she quickly made out the portrait into the hallway. She never cared for being in the halls early in the morning on the weekends or late at night any night. It was eerie, the school was so dead at those times usually. Though sometimes, she guessed, it could be nice to be that alone. But, this morning wasn't one of those mornings. She rubbed her arm, and made towards the stairs.
As she hit the bottom, she stopped outside the Great Hall, and visions of Sirius Black's..stuff entered her mind. She shook it away, and she cracked her fingers nervously, and decided to steal inside to get some food. There was the usual laid out on the tables. She sat at the end of her table, and looked for a plate. She gently grabbed for some bacon, and a bit of juice. She ate silently, drinking quickly. As she was done, she discarded her plate properly, and she checked her face, and then walked out of the Great Hall. She didn't know what to do now, but she glanced towards the doors, and knew she didn't want to be inside anymore. She moved through them, and found herself confronted with a mildly overcast day and she was happy. She then just started to walk. To where, she didn't know, but she would figure it out eventually.
She found herself wandering down past Hagrid's Hut, and into the woods. She'd always heard monsters lived in those woods, but she wasn't scared of Monsters. She was quiet fond of what she had read about them. She liked the idea of unicorns, mermaids and centaurs. She almost figured maybe she might see something of the like, but she didn't count on it, those creatures had to sleep sometime, and it was a bit earlier, unless they were diurnal then it wasn't really all that early, but as for habits like that, she was unsure. Though, it was also obvious she wouldn't see Mermaids for the fact she was far above the lake. She didn't care for water anyway though, so that wasn't too much of a blow to her plans for the day.
As she wandered into the woods, she saw an opening in the trees with a large rock beneath the trees. She wandered closer, and she tried to see over the rock, but couldn't. She put her purse on the rock, and she pushed herself on top of the rock. She leaned towards the edge of the rock, not knowing what was beyond it, but came to see a view of the lake. She smiled lightly, rocking back into a more lady like position considering she was in a skirt. She pushed her skirt down, and she sat herself back onto the rock, and she looked to her left as she heard something, she didn't really feel alarmed, more curious. She started to call out to whatever was over there, but she decided to let it approach her if it felt the need. She chewed her lip anxiously, wondering what it could be.
