general appearance
Always the one to push her boundaries, Vivienne's height reaches five foot ten inches. She's been considerably tall for her age throughout the course of her seventeen years, and although it may have bothered her a bit in the beginning, she is fully accustomed to it now. She has actually become so comfortable with her height that should she have had a choice in the matter way back when, she wouldn't change a thing. This girl is all legs; the kind that'll knock your socks off just getting up from her seat beside you. In no way does her height restrict her from wearing heels, as she proceeds to do so almost if not every day, and being in the presence of other women taller than herself actually tends to make her uncomfortable. Maybe it's a bit of a power trip, but Vivienne stands with straight, if not a bit haughty, posture no matter what the circumstances. And although her 'take no shit' attitude comes across clearly in the way she holds herself, don't mistake Vivienne for the prim and proper sort even for a second. With platinum, if not white, blonde hair -- sheared and disheveled beyond comparison -- that falls to a rather unruly elbow length, all expectations toward a lady-like ensemble should be by now discounted. Vivienne's tresses are so incredibly layered that she can barely make them presentable even at her hardest effort -- which honestly isn't much.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall personality,
Above anything else, the first thing to note about Vivienne is her sense of responsibility. With a brother like Trevor, one needs to have a strong grasp on knowing when and how the right decisions are being made, and when they are not. Further than that, Vivienne knows how to remain focused on her decisions and actions, and the correct process of making sure they're seen through. You've got a snowball's chance in hell in ever seeing Vivienne fail to follow through on something she's set her mind to or made the commitment of carrying out -- regardless of difficulty or time constraint; it's not in her nature to give up easily or put half-assed effort into anything. She always makes good use of her time and it's virtually unheard of for her to do otherwise. As the wiser of two siblings, Vivienne also tries to imprint those qualities into other people. Not that she's particularly concerned with how all people make use of their time or think out their actions, but when those actions involve her or her time being wasted, you sure as hell can count on Vivienne putting her two cents into the situation. She's a disciplinarian who's far from above being cutthroat about putting people into their place when the time calls for it. While it's fortunate that her patience runs high when she's used to dealing with stupidity or childishness, don't expect her to allow anyone to drag their feet or hold her up from carrying out her duties. The fact of the matter is that she doesn't take Sh*t from anyone and pressing your luck with Vivienne isn't a wise decision in the least. She's self-reliant and won't think twice about leaving anyone in the dust if they can't keep up with the task at hand; Vivienne looks out for herself and getting the job done. While she's not entirely against the companionship and cooperation of other people, do well to expect an authoritarian who's more than a bit hard-working with the brass to push you just as hard; she's not going to go easy on anyone.
That being said, Vivienne is a rather vicious person as a whole. For many years she's been required to put up with the hostility of her family situation, among the idiocy she feels of the majority of the people that surround her -- once again, not excluding particular members of her family. While I also stress that Vivienne is a tolerant person toward certain people, don't mistake that as sitting on her hands and putting herself through everything she comes across silently. Her cruelty comes in in the indifferent shell she's built up around herself; Vivienne is usually insensitive to what's happening around her, often reaching the point of complete lack of empathy for anything. Naturally, serious situations have the ability to effect her, as would any other living, breathing person. However, Vivienne tends to view most situations in the light of pessimism and nonchalance. Well, situations that, to her, don't serve as any benefit to herself and are more of an opportunity for a comical outcome than anything else. Because really, Vivienne is rather sly and taunting; it isn't unheard of that her complete insensitivity leads her into jeering at or mocking the situation of another person. While she may initially come off as uptight and solely focused on accomplishing things, Vivienne is very playful; however, Vivienne's playfulness is often more cruel than that of what most people would appreciate. She's amused by other people coming to see the consequences of their actions, particularly her brother, or people like him. Most things do not faze her, and it really isn't that surprising for Vivienne to go a day or two without anything but her focus on work and task-accomplishing, but she isn't solely stoic and violent -- Vivienne does, in fact, have her random outbursts of uncharacteristic excitement, and the ability to provide comments other than just insults or instructions.
While Vivienne is a smart girl, her particular talents lie in the area of street smarts over book smarts. She does well in school and puts in her full effort to succeed, but she does need to work at it and the knowledge she finds in books doesn't come to her as easily to her as she puts off to other people. Where she's gifted is in that determination, ability to adapt well to all sorts of situation, and continue to put her best foot forward. Vivienne's intuition has yet to significantly let her down so far, and she expects things to continue that way. Throughout her life she's been required to stand on her own and make decisions for herself, without the position of a quality authority figure to lead her. Which is rather sad because Vivienne has great respect for good leaders and isn't hesitant to obey the people she views in a good light and uphold a position of authority over her. Vivienne is exceedingly loyal to the people on her side, and it takes a mighty reason or force for that to change. Because while she wants to stay loyal to the people she's grown to trust and respect, she is her own person with her own morals. Vivienne is still far from the perfect person and has done more than a few things she's come to regret, but when the time comes around for her to choose between right and wrong, she knows how to make a good decision and will stand firm in her beliefs. It might just take a little longer for her to come to that realization when she's been in a position for so long or if that decision calls for her to rethink her loyalties. She doesn't look forward to making those kinds of decisions in life, but her rational grasp on reality continues to remind her that they're out there and should she ever be faced with a difficult or life-changing situation, Vivienne has the strength to pull herself through it.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

overall history,
Vivienne never had a mother. There was a woman at one point in time who, at the age of twenty-one, got pregnant with her newly-wed husband, Colden, and after nine months gave birth to a little girl. However, Vivienne never had a woman whom she would come to know as her mother. Colden's long time girlfriend since their sophomore year of high school never planned to be married at a young age. When Colden had proposed it didn't take more than a few moments for her to say 'yes', but it was clear to even her new fiance that she wasn't one-hundred-percent committed to the idea of tying the knot. Signs of trouble were even clearer when the first phone call she made after her engagement that morning was to confirm an eleven o'clock appointment. Colden could see where his new fiance's priorities were and figured she could have a career and start a new life with him at the same time. They were married, and for awhile, there didn't seem to be any serious trouble in the way of making that happen -- until they found out that a baby was on the way, already two months along. At that point, she knew that she wasn't going to be able to handle the juggling between pursuing her dreams and having a family at the same time. Colden pleaded with his lover to stay with him and have the baby, and at one point even suggested putting the baby up for adoption if it meant keeping his wife. But none of that mattered to her; what if she got pregnant again? And it would be hard enough keeping up with her career if her husband still wanted a family as badly as he did. This went on for the next seven months and the breaking point for Vivienne's "mother" set in the moment she was born. She stuck around for no more than the first four months of Vivienne's life, and then she was gone
Colden loved his daughter, but he couldn't help feeling as if she'd been the one to tear the family of his dreams apart. Raising a child on your own is hard enough, but to know that your partner left without even considering the thought of helping you made just looking at Vivienne hard to do at times. Sure, he'd wanted a family with children, but he'd also wanted a wife that was ready for them and he never expected to find himself doing the job alone. By the time Vivienne was starting kindergarten her father couldn't see himself as the only parental influence in her life forever. On top of that, he wanted another chance at making a family, and while both he and his daughter were still young would be preferable. Colden went in and out of relationships as the years flew by, and although many of the circumstances varied, Vivienne couldn't help but see one constant factor in them all. She didn't want a mother. Vivienne saw her friends and the other girls at school; for the most part, they all had maternal figures in their lives. But when Vivienne looked at them, she didn't recognize a feeling of longing for that sort of thing and concluded it was only because she really didn't want that as a part of her life. She'd grown used to the idea that she'd never be nurtured in a way that many of the other children were, and she had no interest in what actually having a mother would be like. Vivienne learned everything from her father and one can expect he lacked in the area of teaching her the ways womanhood and growing up to maybe be a mother one day. Where Vivienne had no desire for those sorts of things, her father did -- and that's where they differed.
Needless to say, when Vivienne's father told her that he was engaged, she was anything but pleased at the idea. And although Colden wished his daughter felt differently about the situation, he was going through with it regardless and actually figured it would be good for her in the end. On top of that, the process would also bring a sibling into the equation -- something Vivienne had neglected even allowing to cross her mind. But for the sake of her father's wishes, and perhaps her new older brother's, she'd sit quietly throughout the whole ordeal and do her best to remain as uninvolved as possible. She didn't want much to do with a new family anyway and it wasn't in her nature to throw fits or act childish over things that didn't go her way. Perhaps the only thing that did work in her favor was how much she'd come to enjoy to company of her new 'brother'. While she's also come to realize that Trevor is completely insufferable, childish, and bothersome as can be at times, she knows how to put up with him and it's actually rather easy for her. Which is a small miracle in itself, because it didn't take long for their 'parents' to step out of the picture entirely. Apparently the pair were mature -- Vivienne agreed to disagree on the account of a certain someone -- enough to hold their own and take care of themselves. Colden and Eliza got all that they really wanted out of life in each other, and although Colden wanted children, the idea of having them was all he really needed to remain satisfied. Consequently, Vivienne went through further neglect from her 'parents', and has hence forth discounted them entirely.
To make matters more difficult for Vivienne -- because looking back on it now, she couldn't call it worse -- she soon discovered that her own knowledge of herself was but barely scratching the surface. As she would come to call them later, Vivienne's father and biological mother were 'muggles'. Of course, at the tender age of nine, the term held no value in the light of her ignorance to all things magical; but to her brother, who was, along with his mother, of the magical sort, it held a far greater meaning -- particularly when Vivienne began to spark signs of magic herself. For a reason she'll never know for certain, Vivienne's magical abilities triggered at the appearance of the new family members in her life. Colden, who unknowingly married himself into the wizarding realm, was, begrudgingly mind you, the last to know. But who was he to complain? All he'd asked for was the chance at another family, and as far as he was concerned a magical one was better than he could've hoped for. Vivienne, on the other hand, found herself very unsure as to her next step for one of the first times in her life. For someone so characteristically sure, she didn't quite know what to think. Perhaps the only reason she was able to adapt to this literally life-changing plight at all was because of her new brother's support -- not that she'd ever admit to it now...
Vivienne found that having people you could count on wasn't as unusual as she expected it to be. Trevor seemed to be taking a liking to her as well and it wasn't long before they both knew they'd always be there for each other. While Trevor saw himself as the benefactor in the situation, Vivienne was smart enough to see how flipped his mind could get at times and knew it required her to watch out for him even when he didn't think she needed to. Vivienne liked knowing the only person she considered her family wasn't trying to tell her how she should be, and it actually brought out the responsible side in her. Because let's face it, Trevor needs all the looking after he can get. Especially when he sets his aspirations as high as he does. Vivienne looks after her brother and does what she can to help him succeed. At this point, she isn't as sure as he is on what she wants to get out of life and is satisfied in taking everything one small, albeit progressive, step at a time.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

When an invitation welcoming a number of special persons to come live at a new, Disneyland-centralized resort made its way into the possession of one Deryn Shayne Meadowlark, surely it had been the single greatest moment of said giant, rainbow-headed woman's life thus far. Not that Disneyland in particular was the pinnacle of all deprived, childhood-related fantasies for Deryn -- however much the magical, cracktastic theme park as a whole proved to be a near identical representation of every odd, sugar-induced thought that's manifested in her head throughout all twenty-three years of existence. This experience holds far greater significant value to the six foot, attention-deficient wonder. No, it isn't the endless supply of overpriced, character themed sweets and treats -- though, having a candy store around every corner certainly doesn't hinder the cause. Perhaps Deryn's single, deepest desire is to readily help and look after children in need. That's right, you've got yourself a Mother freakin' Teresa reincarnate on your hands. If unicorns and rainbow pinatas threw up all over her.And if Deryn read the letter correctly -- which she probably didn't, heavens knows the woman's prone to reading things wrong side up or some other potentially misinforming way -- this shady program was supposedly going to aid her in fulfilling that goal. Which was more than a relief for Deryn when she found out; as her attempts hadn't been proving entirely successful prior to agreeing to the program; Not many medical facilities seem to jump at the prospect of hiring barely legal, mildly insane, pink-haired employees with no former work experience or interest in further education; mind you.
But then her invitation came, and the world was at peace... sort of. Deryn had just moved to Disneyland for crying out loud -- not that she ever bothered to find out what Disneyland actually was before arriving. She'd grown up in a remote, amazonian village after all; you can't expect anything less of an extremely sheltered girl, and, no, google searches do not count. Needless to say, the moment Deryn arrived, she had been in for the second major culture shock thus far into her life; the first being her relocation to the United States altogether. It wasn't an unwelcome one, however; Deryn found herself fitting in better here than she ever did back with her relatives in Illinois. Of course, she'd only been here a week or two at most, and Deryn wasn't exactly the most popular newcomer around. She didn't have any friends to account for so far, and had already achieved making a pest of herself to her 'neighbors.' But really, that room number one-fourteen guy was kind of a grump. Excuse her if the guy didn't like chocolate-deprived visitors at two o'clock in the morning; how was she supposed to know? At the least her roommate -- if that's really what he was; Deryn didn't quite know what to call a person living in a room that was attached to her own -- seemed nice enough. They hadn't exactly met yet, but if he wasn't trying to barge into her own room and kidnap her every night or something just as terrible, then he was pretty darn nice as far as she was concerned. Then again, Deryn half expected every person she came across here to treat her decently -- especially when she was out and about in the park and got requests to have her picture taken, which Deryn happily agreed to until she realized they must have thought her to be a part of a show or attraction or something. And because this is Deryn we're talking about, it kind of freaked her out. She didn't think she was a part of any show; or at least she hadn't been informed of it. What if this was some sort of conspiri--! Oh... right, everyone was treating her nicely. There wasn't anything for her to be afraid of. This was Disneyland after all; what did she expect.. bad guys? As if.
After a long, hard day of running wildly about a children's theme park, Deryn needed a good nights rest,so she might have the energy to do it all over again tomorrow.Really, this was the life for Deryn; she'd already lived a portion of her life in an actual exotic location, and the latter part of it in The Windy City; living at an amusement park was an all knew adventure for her, and she wondered how many people actually got the opportunity to do it. She was thankful at the very least, though, to whom, she wasn't so sure. It was getting late now; the park itself was nearing its closing hours. Deryn had been here for a while now, or at least long enough for an average person to be able to work out the problem at hand. But that didn't exactly help Deryn in her life-long struggle with deductive reasoning. With what, you may ask? Well, she couldn't quite remember where her dorm room was located, and after a fair number of failed attempts at berating random passerby, she figured she might as well do some searching on her own. At this point, she didn't see many other good options; why did programming a small series of numbers into her head prove to be so difficult? Surely, an intellectual person such as herself could possess enough recall to be able to remember where she lived! Surely not. Deryn knew there had been something about her room being in the.. up wing? Or was that north...
Consequently, Deryn found herself in an all too unfamiliar location. The space was rather open, if not a bit unnerving considering the lateness of the hour, paired with the fact that she was there all alone. The vibe of the room wasn't particularly warm and cozy either, but maybe that was just her paranoia taking a firm hold of her. If Deryn had to imagine a welcoming, comfortable place to be, she wasn't sure that it would involve bright, primary colored walls and two-and-a-half foot dice blocks used as makeshift end-tables. But that wasn't to say she didn't find them the least bit fascinating, and therefore struggled to resist the urge to roll one of them across the room. Though, the carpet upon which she the dice block were standing wasn't entirely soft from what she could feel, and Deryn didn't want to risk breaking the darn thing and getting herself into troubleor a ghost flying out or something.Instead, Deryn opted to find and make her way down the nearest hall, in hopes that she'd find a more familiar setting and be able to figure out where her next move was from there. Weaving past a number of architecturally constructed white chairs, and trying her very, very best not to fall over them completely, she paused at the opening of a rather long, narrow hallway. There were numbers lining the head of each door along the walls. Although, she did not recognize any of them as her own; Deryn knew that much. She began, albeit tentatively, to take a few steps forward, eying each door she passed in a curious stupor. Would any of these nice people provide better assistance than the others she'd asked in the park? At least these people actually lived here; maybe they knew their way around Masquerade Hall well enough to help Deryn out with her dilemma.
Deryn found herself at the very end of the West Wing hall, staring up at three large, gold letters that read 'four-three-one.' She sighed audibly, seeing no further options if she wanted to get back to her room in time to go to sleep. Her hand raised -- spindly fingers curled into a loose fist -- and tappedroughlylightly on the cold, wooden door. Deryn's heart nearly froze at the anticipation, yet quickly shifted to a frenzy when moments later, the door flew open in her face. She blinked; eh, seventh time's the charm.
