- - - THE CASTLE WAS, eerily silent and yet, ginny’s eyes were wide open as she turned onto her back, staring into the abyss of what seemed to be endless darkness. sighing softly, she rested her hands behind her head, trying to calm herself back to sleep after being awoken by the nightmares of her past. it was hard to say the least, being in this time period that is. ginny had tried her hardest to keep calm when the secret was first discovered, but it was hard to keep calm when people who are buried in the ground during the present were up and walking about, and in younger forms. ginny closed her eyes once more, sucking in a deep breath and squeezed her eyes shut as if that would make the sleep come faster at a faster rate but alas, her eyes popped right back open as more thoughts began to form in her already jumbled up mind. sighing, she pulled the covers off her body, slowly sitting up, and tried to keep the squeaky springs to a hush as she stood upright, looking around at the other beds and holding in a breath as she saw someone move. it was past curfew, way past curfew actually but ginny had to know what brought her here, to the marauders’ time period and what was the purpose.
she slipped on her black cloak that was hanging from her bed post, she slipped on her shoes that were resting at the foot of the bed, and reaching for her wand on the night table before slowly slinking out of the room, pulling the hood up to blend into the surrounding darkness. the castle was quiet though, so quiet that ginny felt a line of tremors run up her spine resulting in a small shiver as she moved down the spiral staircase, using the wall as a guide and not yet illuminating the tip of her wand till she reached the bottom of the steps. the common room had very little light, but it was enough for ginny to see as she moved across the spacious living room and out of the portrait, finally letting out more of the held in breath. ”success..” she muttered as she gripped her wand tighter. she took a step forward, nearly gasping as the stairwell was awaken and shifted, she held onto the banister tightly, pulling her wand from under her cloak and moved her hand in a creasant shape, whispering the words, ”lumos.”, the words were whispered but the command was enough for the tip of her wand to illuminate with a dim blue ball of light. it was enough light for ginny to descend down the steps as the staircase situated itself. she muttered a not so sweet word under her breath as she descended down the steps and into the main hallway, following it with the help of the bright tip off her wand.
she pulled at the door, growling under her breath as she found it locked and looked in either direction, listening and being aware of any other tips of light, or figures in the darkness. she pointed the wand at the lock, speaking in a voice just barely above a whisper, ”alohomora”, hearing the satisfied click and pushing the door open. she remembered her father telling her that some of the doors in the library were locked with spells that could not be unlocked by other spells, she nodded her head to herself, moving through the aisles and keeping her wand lower, she moved up and down the asiles, pulling out a book or two and sifting through the index, muttering under her breath when nothing appeared. she sighed softly, leaning into the shelf and sighed, ”..why are we here?”, the we was a wild guess. she could not think of herself being the only one that was forced back in time, there had to be others but she had yet to meet up with them. closing her eyes for a moment, ginny tried to remember the layout of the present library (the time period that she was from), wondering if it was that much of a difference. she pushed herself from the shelf, listening to a book fall off the shelf and hit the floor with a loud landing. the next sound frightened her even more though.
she could hear footsteps, feel them in the floorboards as they were the only two living things in the library. what if it was flich? ginny then recalled that he might not even be around at this time, at least not in the same way that he was during her time. that caused ginny to calm down a little, but her eyes widened as she heard a voice, flicking her wand with a mutter of ”nox before pulling her hood up once more and moving further into the aisles, she moved down the column beside the aisles, turning her head at every opening, looking for the person that could very well catch her out of bed, after curfew. Alice felt exhausted. These prefect duties were truly a pain in her behind. Her position was the library. It was kind of pointless in her opinion. Why would anyone go to the library after curfew? Well besides the curiousity of the restricted section. But was a curiousity for something like that strong enough to make a student awake at this time of night. She paced up and down the main area of the library bored out of her mind. She kept glancing at the clock and the door. She was hoping for one of the other prefects to come along and dismiss her from her duty. All she desired at the moment was a good night's sleep. She had been so stressed with all this personal drama, schoolwork, homework, prefect duties, drama of her friends. It was all becoming too much. She didn't even deserve being prefect. Sure she was responsable and was good at analyzing her surrondings so she could tell if a student snuck out. She always stood up for younger students and was helpful. So those were things that made her deserve the position.
But then there were things that cancelled those good things out. There was her constant curiousity to explore things and meddle in things that are not to be meddled with. She does like to adventure when bored and has a tendency to get in quite a bit of trouble. Then she always would give her friends a break. She hated making them get in trouble or taking point. It made her feel guilty. People hated her just because of her prefect title. Because she had the power to make them get in trouble. Sometimes she wished that she didn't have the position. But she was trusted with it so therefore it was her job to do what she was told to do. After all she wanted to make sure Hogwarts was a safe place. Rules were made to be followed. Well most of them were. The ridiculous ones were obviously made to be broken. One like prefects couldn't rest on duty. That they had to constantly be on the watch. Well Alice always had a pretty boring night so why should this night be any different.
She took a seat at one of the tables. She rested her chin on the palm of her hands as her elbow was on the table. Her breathing slowed as she calmed down and she closed her eyes a bit. There was complete silence, all she could hear was her own breathing. Suddenly she heard something click. It was so silent that it was easy to hear. The library was dark, but her vision was already adjusted. She opened her eyes immediatly and turned her head towards the door wide awake. She saw a flash of light moving towards on of the aisles. It was a student out of bed. She stood up quietly grabbing her own wand. She slowly walked towards the other student trying not to make a sound. She stood at the end of the aisle as she watched the figure open a book looking frustrated. Alice narrowed her eyes trying to get a better look. It was probably a female, she could notice the girl's red hair. It wouldn't be Lily though, Lily was a sucker for the rules. Well unless Lily was there to help with prefect duties.
Suddenly a book fell of the shelf. Alice started to walk towards the figure when she heard the figure mutter something as the light went out. She could hear the figure walk forward. First she followed without light. She walked and stopped trying to listen for breathing. The library was so quiet she could probably hear it. "Lumos" Alice used as her wand produced light as she looked around. She wasn't going to lose her. She kept walking and stopped immediatly coming face to face with a girl. She had red hair but definately wasn't Lily. She was someone else. Probably a transfer considering how she had never seen her before. She was also a fellow Gryffindor. Great, more guilt for me to feel when she gets in trouble. She thought to herself sarcastically. But she knew it was her responsability.
"Um... hi." she said offering a smile as she closed her eyes giving herself a mental slap. God she must seem like such an idiot. "You are aware it is way past curfew, right?" she asked, still wondering why anyone would go to a library, of all places, past curfew. Maybe the girl had a good excuse, like a late essay or something. But a good excuse wouldn't get her out of trouble. Alice had to remind herself of that. "Look, I am really sorry but as prefect I might have to give detention or make a professor aware of this. What's your name?" she asked. After all she would need the student's name to make it more official. When she apologized she was honest, she did hate it when people go in trouble.

- - - SHE KEPT MOVING, through the aisles, trying to keep her frightening breathing under control as she held her back to one of the shelves, her black cloak keeping her hidden among the darkness that surrounded them. she could feel the footsteps, the beads of sweat on her forehead, everything was amplified just a little more and she took a small step forward from her hiding spot, hearing the floor creak and closing her eyes tightly with a sigh. she knew that her spot was given away and when she opened her eyes, there was indeed a figure in front of her. she squinted to the light coming off the wand, taking a small step back but keeping her posture up, her head high as she look the girl over. a familiar face but ginny could not yet place it, sighing softly, she dropped her wand to her side and was ready to accept her punishment for being out of bed. she heard the girl ask a question and was almost tempted to roll her eyes but refrained in fear of more discipline being put on top of the obvious one that she was going to receive. yes m’am.” she spoke with a little louder of a voice, not wanting to wake up the books that seemed to have a mind of their own at times, or if someone else happened to be in the library with them. she nodded her head to the question as she spoke, knowing full well that a detention was looming in the distance.
hazel eyes finally dilated and adjusted to the dim light that was coming off the girl’s wand, a smile graced her lips for just a moment as she noticed the familiar insignia on the girl’s robes. a gryffindor, much like herself. the girl almost seemed to have a kind of guilt on her features that was threatening to crack, but her responsibility was also there and ginny was not going to allow the young lion to sacrifice her job in order to cover for a fellow gryfiindor. sighing once more, she listened to the girl’s miniature speech, already having heard it a handful of times in her own time. ginny was not one to go looking for trouble but had always managed to be swept into it. sneaking out of the common room was beyond her normal behavior but she was not exactly a stickler for rules. she was a weasley after all and did have a reputation to help defend. nodding her head once more, she took the girl’s words in and spoke softly, ”i am well aware of that miss. i apologize, curiousity got the better of me…” she spoke, her eyes a little widened as she realized her mistake and made a quick attempt to correct it, ”i mean for this essay i had to write for charms class. i was reading over the assignment in my head and realized that i did not have that much information, the library seemed like the best source.” she lied smoothly, just hoping that the girl would understand, even if it was a lie.
it was hard for ginny to lie, well at least to a fellow house mate. she picked her wand up, flicking it on with a soft ”lumos” and was able to see the girl in a much better light. the features looked to familiar and it was bugging ginny about where she had seen the girl. her mind recalled the question that was asked to her and she lowered her a wand a little, ”my name is ginny…” she paused, wondering how many other ancestors of hers were walking about the castle, ”weasley.” she continued, an almost proud tone when she announced her last name. ginny had already come up with the lie that she needed in case that name was familiar to the girl. she finally bowed her head, taking in the creases and nooks of the old castle floorboards, trying to think for a moment of something to say to the girl, something that would help figure out why the face was so familiar. unknown to ginny, in the back of her mind, the old order picture that was taped on the mirror in the room of requirement was her answer. that photo held pictures of many people in the castle that would seem familiar, including the girl in front of her. ”i really am sorry. i suppose curiosity is not an admirable attribute to have.”, she picked her up to meet the girl and sighed, ”may i ask who you are?” she spoke softly. ginny’s voice held that deep british accent, but a little shaky due to the near fright that she had from being caught, but the punishment was well deserved. ginny had been fully aware of the risks of sneaking out of her bed, and she stood, ready for her detention slip.

Alice couldn't help but smirk and roll her eyes as the girl called her ma'am. It wasn't a rude eye roll. It was more of an amused one. Not many called her ma'am, she couldn't even be considered old enough. She was a teenager. She wasn't sure if the girl was giving her attitude, if she was joking, or if she seriously thought she was older than she was. Then again it was still dark so maybe she didn't notice her that well. "I'm only seventeen, I'm not that much older for you to call me ma'am." she said with a smile. Her tone wasn't rude in any way, but more amused by the younger girl. Embarassing thing was that the girl was taller than her. Then again everyone was taller than Alice. She was just naturally short. She suddenly noticed a smile on the girl's lips. She must've noticed Alice being a fellow Gryffindor. But hopefully the girl wouldn't get high expectations for getting off the hook just because they were in the same house.
It was certainly a shame that they met this way. Giving someone detention didn't give the best impression. But hopefully the girl would understand the situation Alice was in. The responsability she had been given when she received the title of prefect. She didn't want to let the school down by not performing her duties to the full extent. Alice analyzed the girl as she mentioned curiousity getting the best of her. Until she corrected herself by mentioning an essay. Alice didn't completely buy it, but she was far too tired to even investigate further. She didn't feel like giving the poor thing a hard time. After all she must be nervous enough about being in trouble. But then again trouble was sort of the norm for Gryffindors like Alice, with her intense curiousity and such.
She nodded with an understanding look, even if she didn't believe it. Suddenly the other girl used Lumos to give more light. Alice blinked a couple of times at the brighter light. It was nice to be able to see more of the girl's feature. She lowered her wand a bit making it easier for Alice to see without hurting her eyes from the bright light. She girl said her name was Ginny Weasley. No wonder the girl had the familiar red hair. It was like a Weasley family trait. They all had that fiery red hair. "Weasley? You related to Arthur?" she asked the girl even if it was an obvious answer. After all why else would they have the same last name? First James had a cousin and now Arthur probably had a never mentioned relative. Why was all these exchange students somehow related to someone else in Hogwarts? They were all related to a guy, none of them seemed to be related with a girl. That was a bit suspicious. But it probably was nothing. Alice was probably overanalyzing things again.
Ginny said something about her curiousity not being an admirable trait. She smiled and nodded. "I agree with you. I am a very curious person and my curiousity has gotten me into more problems than its helped me out." she said with a small smile. At least this girl understood the bad things about curiousity. Alice's curiousity was a reason why she never would think she would be a prefect. A curious prefect was never a good thing because they tended to get in trouble. And last time Alice checked prefects were supposed to behave perfectly and never get in trouble. Which is why she was very confused as to why she was one. The girl asked for her own name. Alice wasn't sure why but why be so paranoid? Maybe she just wanted to be friendly. "I'm Alice Radford. and it is a pleasure to meet you Ginny." she said putting her hand out for a shake with a kind smile.

- - - MANNERS WERE SOMETHING, that ginny did not lack. she had them, sometimes she just forgot to utilize them but when it came to an authority figure, much like the one standing before her, she was going to be sure to use those manners. covering up her embarrassment with a soft chuckle, she nodded to the girl, ”i’m terrible sorry, i just..” what was the excuse that she was going to use this time? sighing, she finished her thought, ”i didn’t know what else to call you. fellow lion, housemate, miss, prefect, or m’am,. however, i figured that the latter was the best of the list..” she spoke with a little of the spite fire that she was known for back in her own time. brushing a hand through her fire red hair, she ruffled it at the ends, trying to find the words to say to the young girl standing before her. seventeen was not that much old than her but it did not mean that the girl was not more powerful, and obviously with the badge and the power to give detention (something ginny did not want), was a good indication of the power that the girl had. she noticed the eye roll but mentioned nothing, ginny was in no place to talk when a detention was hanging over her head.
she was weasley and there were attributes that apparently leaked into this time period. she mentioned her father and ginny instantly perked up, desiring to meet her father now more than anything. becoming his friend however could mess up the time period, something that ginny did not wish to do. awful things happened to wizards who meddled with time, even unintentional time traveling, she figured that the warning was still the same. nodding to the girl’s question, she was not sure how to say she was related to her father without giving away the strange situation that she was. the time periods were blending, something that was not good for either world. the present people, which she also assumed had traveled with her, could mess with too many of the events that were going to happen, or prevent events that should happen. crushes, fights, deaths, it could all be prevented by her and her fellow present time classmates but ginny pondered the repercussions that came with doing so. ”i suppose the hair gave that away.” she chuckled, lightening the mood of the heavy air that lingered between the two. ginny could feel the tension, one holding all the power and the other fearing for the detention slip that the other could write up. ginny was just thankful that it was not a slytherin that had found her, and instead a fellow gryffindor. ginny left her connection to Arthur at that, she had not yet found a way to connect to the younger version of her father that did not give away everything.
looking to the girl as she spoke again, chuckling to her commentary about the curiosity attribute that was a common between the two girls. ”tis a real bloody curse but a sweet blessing at the same time, isn’t it?” she asked, finding the irony in her words to be too much and resulting in another chuckle to part from her lips. she had not found out anything about the time traveling that had occurred between the two time periods but she did possibly find a new friend. listening to her name, ginny’s brows furrowed for a moment, and then one of them arched in intrigue. the first name was familiar, as was the face but the last name had her thrown off a little to guess the identity. she just nodded her head before a smile graced her lips once more with a pleased look plastered on her face, ”it’s a pleasure to meet you as well, even in such unfortunate circumstances.” she asked, gesturing the space between the two. ginny was still scrambling to find the girl’s identity, coming up empty handed every time that she thought she could place the girl. she glanced around, the grip on her wand loosening just a little and sighed, ”so..what’s it like to be a prefect? i thought about applying but i suppose trouble making is not exactly a wanted a characteristic.” she spoke, another chuckle as she made fun of herself. She nodded with a small smile as the girl apologized. Alice felt bad, perhaps she made the girl nervous or embaarassed. She nodded, ma'am would sound most appropriate, but Alice wasn't huge on formalities of such. "One time a first year called me fellow lion housemate miss prefect ma'am. He called me that ten times before I told him my name. He was the cutest thing." she said with a small chuckle remembering that day. She had seen the little kid around the hallways, he was the most precious 1st year she had ever met. He was just plain adorable. She remembered on Valentine's day he got her a rose. It was really cute. Alice adored the first years and hated when people messed with the young ones. She never understood how anyone would be cruel enough to pick on little children. Even if they technically weren't children, Alice saw them that way and wanted to protect them from bullies. Like the blonde pureblood boy she recently met in the library. A transfer student who had those ridiculous pureblood beliefs.
Alice noticed Ginny perk up at the mention of Arthur. That sory of proved it. But she seemed excited, like she longed to see him. If they were relatives they probably would have met. Unless they haven't seen each other in a while or if he was one of those relatives that were held secret from you. She gave a small smile as Ginny was lightening the air between them. The tension dissolved a little. She did like the girl's attitude. "Yeah it could've. But the Weasley's aren't the only ones with Red Hair. My best friend Lily Evans, also has red hair but she's not related to the Weasley's. Until you said your name I actually thought you were related to her." she said with a small chuckle trying to lighten the mood some more. There were very few redheads in the school, they could always use more. That way Alice wouldn't be able to recognize Lily anywhere just because of the red hair. She would have a chance to confuse her best friend with someone else, which would prove to be quite interesting.
Alice smiled at Ginny's comment and nodded. "It really is. It does help find things and discover new places. I wouldn't know half of the school as well as I do without my curiousity." she said with a smile. It was true, she had found some secret passage way because of it. It did help with prefect duties, she did sometimes search the secret passageways throughout the castle for students. She had only caught one or two students there. That could've been another reason behind the school assigning Alice as prefect. Even though she would let some students off the hook once in a while, she did do her duties a majority of the time. And it's not like she was the only one who went easy on friends. She was sure many others did so also. She couldn't help but smile at Ginny. "Yes, the circumstances, what a great way to meet someone." she said sarcastically, she hated how she had to meet the girl this way. Why couldn't they have met in the daylight instead. That way they could avoid all the tension and the fear of the detention looming near.
She smiled as the younger girl asked about being a prefect. Not the first time Alice gotten the question. "It's a lot of hard work. Staying up at night, having to be alert. You need to enforce the rules no matter who it is..." she started but paused with a small smile. "But I think we both know that every prefect obviously lets their friends off the hook at some point in their life." she said, it was hard to let her friends get in trouble. The guilt always took over, but it couldn't just happen to her. She was sure other people did the same. And James Potter being head boy, she was sure the marauders wouldn't get in as much trouble as they normally would. She smirked and shook her head "I honestly don't know why I even got chosen. With my curiousity and I get involved in things that need to be stayed out of... I have a tendency to explore when I am bored. Aren't the best prefect qualities." she said with a small chuckle as she shook her head.

- - - THE GRIN GREW, as she listened to the story, chuckling as a result of the humor that was spoken. ”gosh, he sounds adorable. but that is a long list of names to go through to address someone” she added another soft chuckle, remembering her first year and her first encounter with a prefect. that prefect happened to be one of her brothers and he was rather rude to her. she knew that he was just doing his job but never had ginny seem him be such a power hungry prat in her life. she sighed as the memory surfaced a little more, longing for the times that she remembered. ginny missed her own time period where things were a bit on edge with the return of you-know-who but at least she could relate to people that. here, it was hard to. ginny had to watch everything that she was saying, not knowing whose mother or father she was speaking to when she was addressing someone. for all she knew, alice could be a mother of something. ginny knew she was actually, she knew that the name was familiar and the face but it was still not able to be placed. the features were similar to someone else she knew, it was the eyes that alice had that made her come up with a few choices to what kin of this alice’s those eyes would belong to. for now, ginny was enjoying the midnight chat, keeping her wand lowered and carefully not to move it too much in fear that it could show as a threat.
ginny had to remember not to give too much away about her past, present or even the future plans. too much information could end up being a bad thing and it was in the best interest of both of these two that ginny keep her lying skills a little more sharper when speaking. the name of harry’s mother caused a near distant look to appear in her eyes, blinking back the gleeful tears that were stinging her face, and playing off the reaction as she rubbed at her eyes. ”so much dust in these old books..” she muttered while scratching at her eyes once more. the fact that lily evans was still alive had to mean that james was and sirius and all the other people of harry’s past that he had lost too soon after knowing them. she now wondered if harry had traveled back as well, it seemed that it would be likely and what a reunion that would be. ginny had to remind herself that harry could not walk up to the future potters and explain everything, it could mess up the future. her words and actions rippled through time and affected what was happening in the future and ginny felt like she was walking on eggshells. ”hm, i have yet to meet this..lily evans but since she is your friend, i guarantee that i will like her if we do cross paths.” she knew that those words were true, lily had always seemed like a truly genuine person that ginny longed to get to know a little more.
”glad to know that i won’t stick out like a sore thumb as much. other redheads are always a nice treat to find.” she chuckled, playing with the end of her own past-shoulder length hair. she curled a strand around her finger, seeing the color light up a little more in the dim light of both their wands. ”but alas, i am a weasley. i take it there are many of my family members here. i haven’t seen them in quite some time. two christmases ago i believe” she spoke with a near fluent lie. ginny knew that school at least, well she knew the school that she come from but hogwarts could not have changed that much in about thirty years or so, could it? she surely hoped not or finding her classes were going to be more of a challenge that she would have liked, but ginny nodded to her statement as it was the same way that she had discovered much of the castle as well.
ginny was relieved when the topic was changed off her family since she was not doing too well at trying to convince this girl of the exchange story that was relied to her when she had woken up in this time period. now, if they had only explained why she was here, then this moment would not be happening, of course ginny had no qualms with standing around talking to alice. in fact, at the moment, she could think of nothing better to do. chuckling as she listened to the girl, her chuckle slowly grew into a laugh, covering her mouth to muffle the sound as she listened, shaking her head as the giggles had died down. ”that would be hard but you seem to be doing a really good job, i mean, you did catch me out of bed after all. i thought about being a prefect maybe next year, but i am not sure if i have the characteristics for it, or even the patience..” she was speaking of the weasley trait that so many of them had. the fire in their blood that ran through their veins when they were instantly annoyed or agitated. for ginny, spells were the solution for those kind of moments and she was not always in the right mind when attacking another. ”who are the other prefects? or actually..whose the head boy and girl?” she asked, a slight infliction on her voice as she raised the inquiry.

Alice gave a soft chuckle at Ginny's comment about the first year. "Well he was nervous and terrified of getting in trouble. I let him down easy, only took off a few points. I just couldn't give detention to that face." she said with a small smile. She was a softee for the younger students. Alice was always an only child and always wanted siblings so she always treated the younger students like her brothers and sisters. She would look out for them and baby them at times. It was a habit she had to get out of if they were to grow on their own and learn from their own mistakes. Alice couldn't protect the students forever from bullies. They had to learn that the world was a cold place and they had to always have hope and strength to be able to survive out there. That not everything was as it seems. And that also applied to these new transfer students. Sure, they seemed like great people, well most of them did, but there was something they were obviously hiding. And Alice had to find out what.
She noticed tears fill up Ginny's eyes, she was about to ask if she was okay but she mentioned dust in the old books. Alice nodded, she did have a point. These books probably haven't been dusted or let alone picked up in ages. "If you want we can move away from these dusty books." Alice said considerately not wanting to make Ginny uncomfortable with her surrondings. She was already in trouble, better not add horrible surrondings to it. Alice smiled and nodded at what Ginny said about Lily. "I think you will love Lily. She is so sweet and kind." Alice said. But she did leave out Lily's temper. The girl had a horrid temper that no one would ever want to see. But she could see Ginny and Lily being good friends if they ever met one another. Maybe she could arrange a meeting sometime for the two girls.
Alice gave a small laugh at Ginny's statement. "It's always nice to have another redhead." she said with a smile. Alice always had this joke that redheads weren't as innocent as they seemed. They were usually hot tempered, how else did their hair get that red? She knew it was a lame joke but it always made her smile. She nodded at Ginny's statement. She was pretty sure Weasley's could be found anywhere. Two christmasses was quite some time. A lot could change within that time period. Alice knew that very well. She imagined how her friends looked then compared to now and they were completely different. Still recognizable but they have changed a lot. they were much more beautiful now. And the boys were much more handsome.
Alice smiled as Ginny complimented how she did on her duties. "Well yes, mostly because of my tendency to overanalyze and notice things most don't notice." she said, she was one of those people who overanalyzed everything, even until it got a bit annoying. She nodded at the mention of patience. "Oh yes, you need a lot of patience. Especially with some of the people you need to deal with." she said with a nod. Some had a horrible attitude, others were rude, some didn't care, and some even threatened Alice. But despite all that Alice did enjoy being a prefect. It gave her a sense of pride and responsability. like she had a chance to make a difference and make the school a better place for everyone.
Ginny first asked about the other prefects. But she corrected herself and asked about the head boy and head girl. Probably out of curiousity. "The head girl is Lily Evans. But she is much more responsable with her duties than I am. But she does give me good positions." she said with a smile, being best friends with a head girl always came in a lot of handy. "Then the head boy is James Potter. I don't know why though, he probably holds the most detentions records." she said with a soft chuckle. The marauders were going to avoid trouble this year. Just because of James Potter. "Funny thing is, Lily hates James. or at least she thinks she does and tries to convince everyone she does. But I think she has a soft spot for him. Even though she'd murder me if I ever said that to her." she said with a small giggle. Alice mostly said Lily fancied James to annoy the girl, but who knew, maybe she actually did fancy James which is why she put on the hate act.

- - - THE TONE IN, alice’s voice as she talked about the stranger kid brought the grin on ginny’s face to grow just a little bit more. her lips twitched, threatening to let out another chuckle as she imagined what this kid looked like. his face, his stuttering words, even the house that he was (thought that had already been mentioned with “housemates”). ”he sounds absolutely precious.”, smiling after she spoke and giving a small chuckle to the thought of the poor little first year once more. she remembered her first year, the memories that came to mind were nothing pleasant. the diary being discovered, being possessed by the dark lord who ginny wondered about at the moment. she suddenly recalled the brief history lessons given to her by her parents and her professors, this time period was around the time that he had started to rise to power for the first time. the tremors ran up her spine at a faster rate and caused not one, but two shivers to come from the young girl. she covered them up by rubbing her arm as if the friction would warm her body and her thoughts. ”this fabric doesn’t help too much with the cold.” she spoke, covering up her shivers even more with reassuring words. yet, no matter how much she reassured alice, she had not yet reassured herself. the dark lord was out there, and harry potter who was not yet born could be walking the halls at this moment. gathers of you-know-who could be passing her at every moment, murders of people she loved or came to care for and people that would turn darker than then the blackness surrounding them. that thought caused the tremors to move down her arms and up her legs.
ginny tried to take her mind off that thought. the blacks, malfoys, lestranges, they were all here and could easily be taken out of possibly persuaded of their alliance. ginny thought to how much history would change, if lily and james were saved by the hands of the dark lord, but what would become of harry? what would become of neville if his parents were warned? (no realizing that one was standing right before her), there was so much that could be fixed but so much that could be damaged. her own mind was drowning out alice’s voice but she watched her lips move and tried to take in the words, she did not catch the offer to move but she did happen to take-in the words of about lily. ”i’m sure she is a sweetheart and i would love to meet her at some point. i know she is at least a year or two above me.” and ginny only knew that to be true from the fact that alice was two years older than her. chuckling, she nodded to alice, her fingers still twirling the red strand of hair around her fingers and nodding in complete agreement, ”well we are a rare breed.”, giving a slight humor to the elusive red head gene that seemed to be recessive or not even present in some people. she dropped her hand to her side as she stopped fidgeting with her hair and forced herself to pay attention to the girl as she spoke.
her whole body went frigid at the next words, causing ginny’s eyes to widen just a little before blinking to reset her eyes, rubbing at them again for an excuse to hide her rather surprised expression. a time traveler standing and talking to a girl that is known to nit-pick and pick up those little details that everyone else missed, that was not a good thing. she chuckled, shaking her head as that was not an attribute that was shared between the two, ”i wish i was like that, i’m not oblivious but sometimes things just skip over my head like when i’m really focused on something else..”. ginny most of the time was more alert than most people, her wand was almost always at the ready but there were times that her mind and eyes were too focused on one thing to notice another and sometimes her guard fell. alice seemed to be opposite, very opposite of that and ginny could not help but worry just a little more. the secret could not be found out, it was a necessity that the secret of their time hop into the back was kept exactly that, a secret. she could not imagine if someone like luna or draco had skipped back into time with her but something told her that they had and that they needed to be watched a little. luna more than draco. grinning, she shook her head, ”yea i don’t have that kind of patience for people so i doubt that i would be a good prefect” she spoke with nothing but pure honesty as ginny was quick to hex and slow to think about her actions.
the two names struck a chord in ginny’s mind, those were two of the most famous names that were uttered in hogwarts in her time. not only the parents of the chosen one but they also had a great deal of achievements. james being a seeker, lily being the perfect straight a student, much like hermione was. she couldn’t help but laugh as she explained the interesting relationship between the head girl and head boy, the irony of it was all the more intriguing for the young gryffindor. she decided not to give too much of the future away, after her laughing died down, she looked up to alice and shrugged, ”seems like a match made in heaven to me. a perfect girl and the bad boy? it’s a fairytale even.”, shaking her head, she looked around for a moment before turning her attention back to alice as she finished talking, ”isn’t it always that way? i bet they like eachother more than they are letting on. who knows though, right?” she asked leaving the question and the possibility for a relationship up in the air. ”are you finished your duties for the night or do you have to keep patrolling?” she was more curious about the prefect position now that she met a prefect that seemed nice.[/blockquote] ----------------------------------------------------------- STATUS, complete. Alice gave Ginny another look of concern as the girl shivered. She gave a simple nod but part of her believed there was more to the shiver than Ginny was letting on. Something the girl was hiding, something that all the exchange students were hiding. There was something about their school which was highly suspicious. They all seemed to have dark secrets that could never be revealed. But in all honesty, it really wasn’t Alice’s business. Ginny didn’t have to tell her anything if she didn’t want to. Alice started to walk towards the front of the library motioning Ginny to follow her. The girl was obviously cold and reacting to dust in that section. Best to give them better surroundings to talk and connect in.
Alice nodded at what Ginny said. “What year are you in Ginny?” she asked out of pure curiousity. She didn’t seem much younger than Alice. Then again everyone didn’t seem much younger than Alice. Unless they were a 1st year or something. It was usually the height that made people think she was younger than she was. Alice smiled and nodded at the rare breed comment with a small chuckle. “I always wanted red hair. I never knew why. I guess it was because so many people have brown hair that I want to be unique.” She said with a shrug. It was true, one Halloween she bought a wig with red hair and was a ginger for Halloween. She was indeed a unique child but where was the fun in being normal? After all, if someone was normally weird, wouldn’t them being weird be normal? Normal technically didn’t exist since normality was a matter of opinion. It was not a fact and couldn’t be scientifically proven. Only Alice would spend long nights figuring these things out instead of working.
She noticed Ginny offer a surprised expression. Either she didn’t expect someone like Alice to be like that or she was nervous about that quality Alice had. But just as she did so Ginny rubbed her eyes. Maybe Alice was imagining it, she was seeing what she wanted to believe. She wanted to believe that her suspicions were true. Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her. It was rather late, even though she didn’t have the time. She could tell by how tired she was but she was too lazy to look at the clock at that moment. Alice shook her head as Ginny mentioned wishing she was like it. “No you don’t. Sure, it comes in handy but it can also be dangerous. Like if I find out something someone doesn’t want me to know. I would be in quite a bit of trouble, especially if it was someone dangerous.” Alice said, she was fearful that she may find out something that she would regret knowing. Especially with all the dark times that lied ahead. The rising of a new wizard named You-Know-Who. Things were looking dark and Alice was scared for the life of herself and her friends. They would graduate soon and be vulnerable to the dark and dangerous world that laid ahead.
She snapped out of her thoughts, she didn’t want to think of them, especially this late at night. Those thoughts were the last things she wanted on her mind at that moment. She nodded at what Ginny said, even Alice didn’t have patience if the particular person in trouble was picking on another student. Especially if they had those stupid and ridiculous pureblood beliefs. “Trust me, sometimes I lose my patience also. Especially with most of the pureblood Slytherins.” She said shaking her head. They had to learn already that they didn’t own the school. That they weren’t the best things that ever happened to this place. More like the worst things that did. She never got how someone could be so self-centered and cruel. It took a real intense person to act like that. She didn’t blame the students though. She blamed the family they were brought up in. Maybe if they would let go of their prejudices they would be much nicer people and more pleasurable to be around. Even though it was hard to imagine.
Alice smiled as the girl laughed. She wasn’t sure if it was the fact about James being headboy or if it was his very interesting relation with Miss Lily Evans. She gave a small laugh and shook her head. “Oh Lily would love to hear that one.” She said, she hoped if Ginny ever met Lily that she would avoid the James topic. The last thing Lily needed was someone else teasing her about James Potter. She nodded to what Ginny said “Oh James is not shy at all about his feelings for Lily. He makes it quite obvious actually, I swear, everyone knows. Even she knows it.” She explained, that boy really did make it quite obvious. But Alice sort of found his determination really cute. “You’re probably right though, it does make sense. Who knows, maybe they might even get together?” she said, it was just her own suggestive comment. She personally, could never see Lily going out with James, but who knew, it could happen. Strange things had a tendency of happening.
Ginny asked her about if her prefect duties were done. She checked the time in the library and realized it was way past the time her prefect duties ended. She felt herself flush red of embarrassment as she turned to Ginny, the blush still one her face. “I must’ve dozed off a bit. I was supposed to get someone else to take over an hour ago.” She said with an embarrassed chuckle. “Which means when I caught you I was technically off duty.” She said with a huge smile on her face. “Looks like you got lucky Ginny, since I technically wasn’t supposed to be on duty, I guess I could let you off the hook.” She said with a kind smile and a shrug. Though her eyes twinkled with amusement at how it ended up turning out.
