Alice waited in the hallway besides the entrance to the Slytherin Common Room. She had already sent in some random Slytherin student to get Emmelia. She wasn't sure if the student would actually get the girl or not. After all most Slytherins weren't huge fans of them Gryfffindors. And that one she sent in didn't seem particularly happy to see her down in their side of the castle. It was some rivalry between the two houses that went back for a long time that caused hatred amongst most of the students. But Alice never judged people based on house or blood. Which is why she didn't mind becoming close to Emmelia. Because the girl was someone who she loved to hang with and had a lot of fun with. She honestly didn't care what people thought of their friendship.
The reason Alice wanted the Slytherin is for an exploration. She had done nothing fun since the year began. Mostly because of her need to be responsible to be a prefect. But that way of life was kind of boring. She wanted to explore the castle, see if anything changed. She usually did her little mini adventures with Emmelia. They had gotten in trouble together a lot in the past. It was sort of their own thing. It had been a while since the girls spent time together. She was sure that there was plenty in her friend’s life. And she wanted to be there as someone to talk to. She missed hearing about Emmelia’s complicated life and problems. It was like what muggles called ‘reality tv’. Which must be pretty entertaining if it was anything like her own life and the lives of her friends.
She also missed talking to the girl about her own problems. The last time they talked was right after Alice got broken up with by her boyfriend for another girl. Back then she loved too much and too easily. She fell quickly and hard. But now it was the polar opposite. She kept herself overly guarded, in fear of getting hurt again. She needed to talk to her, ask her what to do. She was always honest with Alice and would definitely be of help. And she was exactly what the short, petite brunette needed at the moment. A friend to tell her how it was without sugarcoating it. To help her see the reality of her situation.

Emmelia Jenelle Jammison was sitting on a couch in the Slytherin Common Room bored to pieces. She had done all her homework before it was due, which was surprising in her case. She didn't have Quidditch Practice today which depressed her a little, and on top of that Regulus hated her ten times worse than he did previously. With a long sigh she put her face in her hands and shook her head. Everything was getting out of control, she needed to get out and do something fun to take her mind off things.
A second year came into the room telling her some Gryffindor Prefect wanted her outside. How the second year knew her was beyond her recognition, but she shook it off standing up and walking toward the door. She couldn't help but wonder who wanted her at this hour of the night. She knew all of the Gryffindor Prefects personally so it wasn't that she did something wrong. She just wanted to know who it was and what they were going to get themselves into.
Walking out immediately Emmelia smiled at who it was standing on the other side. Alice Radford. She hasn't been able to hang out with Alice in quite some times and she has missed the girl time they had with each other. Hugging the girl she laughed and said, "Alice, I haven't seen you in forever! Where have you been hiding from me?!" She pulled away with a wide smile on her face, now she knew they were going to do something fun tonight. She rarely hung out with her girlfriends at Hogwarts, she was always around her guy friends, or Sirius now. "We have a lot to catch up on, but first things first what are we getting into tonight?" Emmelia asked with a chuckle. Tonight just got better.

Alice smiled upon seeing the girl walk out of the common room. She smiled and hugged Em back tightly as she swayed her back and forth a bit. She missed the girl. They needed to spend more time together. She gave a small laugh "Under your bed of course! Where else could I hide?" she asked with a teasing smile and a giggle. After all Alice was short enough to hide under those beds. Em would always make jokes about her size. How she could be mistaken as a first year. How she almost stepped on Alice. How she could easily fit under beds without anyone noticing. She was used to it, people often made jokes and gave her a hard time on her height. But she knew it was all in good find and she always managed to find something to get even and tease her about. It was just how they were. They just made fun of each other for the fun of it. After all what were friends for?
She smiled. "Well I am wearing my black dress that has some diamond studs on them. Not real of course, I couldn't afford that. Then I have a plain black mask and black high heels. Not that fancy but pretty." she said with a shrug and a smile. "So how about you? Whatever it is it must be beautiful." she complemented her friend. She was always just so beautiful. Something that Alice envied and wished she was. Alice wasn't sexy or hot. She was more cute in her opinion. Pretty at most. But she couldn't exactly extend on how attractive she was. She wasn't that alluring. She wasn't like Em. Or like Lily. Or like any other female in the school besides her. They were so lucky and fortunate to have guys fancy them and not embarass themselves around guys they crush on.
"So how about some catching up? I want to hear about the super sexy love life of yours." she said teasingly with a giggle. She was positive Em had someone in her life. There always was. Either if it was a current romance, a past one, or a crush. There was always something. And Alice was always there willing to listen to the girl. Whether it was conversation or a rant. She had to be a supportive friend. That was her job. She was always the listener, but not so much good at advice when it came to boys. Love wasn't her best subject. It was actually sort of like an epic fail in many ways.

Emmelia laughed at her comment. She was extremely short, Emmelia practically towered a couple of feet over her. Well, there she was exaggerating it was more like one, but still Alice was very short. She was almost a little taller than the first years that went through Hogwarts. She was cute and stout but at the same time she had the biggest personality that shined through. "Oh! I forgot to check there! How silly of me to have forgotten!" Emmelia chuckled and shook her head. How could she have forgotten that Alice would hide there?
Emmelia had forgotten about her masquerade gown that was hanging beside her bed. She had a great time picking it out in the store, she had apparated from Hogwarts and went to a little shop in London that no one else would go to since it was Muggle made. "It is a creme in color, has grays and a light blue hues at the bottom, its strapless and flowing." She described her dress. It was simple but fun, matching how she was in her opinion. "You are going to look absolutely beautiful, Alice. I can't wait to see you there." Emmelia smiled at the Prefect. Alice didn't think that she was too pretty, which was ridiculous in her opinion. She was more than beautiful in her eyes as well as in the eyes of plenty of men at Hogwarts as well.
"Yes, we have tons to catch up on. Especially what I've been through since the beginning of the year. I haven't been able to talk to you so you won't believe it..." Emmelia rambled for a moment or two. She regained her composure and began to walk down the halls of Hogwarts along side Alice. "So, halfway through the summer my parents had their annual party right. Regulus Black showed up and one thing led to another. Ever since then we were in a secret relationship type of deal...then Sirius and I began to date." Emmelia told her bits and pieces of the whole ordeal.

Alice grinned as the girl laughed. She was significantly taller than her. Alice had to look up when talking to her like she did with most people. But her height is what made her, well Alice. The fact she was short made her seem adorable. "You forgot to check under you bed?" Alice asked trying her best to keep a straight face as she raised an eyebrow. She shook her head pretending to be ashamed. "My oh My Em. Where has that mind of yours been?" she asked before starting to give a small laugh. She had to remind herself to never go into acting. Or just not into acting where she had friends. For now she would stick with her singing. Her singing which only her friends knew about. But she was still too shy to sing in front of them. Mostly in fear of them either lying to her to make her feel successful or criticize her about her singing. She just couldn't handle something like that.
Alice listened as Em described her dress. She tried to imagine it in her head so she would be able to recognize the girl. Maybe they could hang out sometime before her date arrived because she was positive that Em would have a date. It was Emmelia after all. "That sounds so pretty and fun. Where did you find such a dress?" Alice asked curiously. Alice simply borrowed one of her mother's believe it or not her mother was also quite short around Alice's age. She got the height from her mother. She always wanted to marry someone tall to even out their children's height. Even if that was not how genetics worked, but she did want the probability of tall children. Even if it meant having a child that towered over her. But frankly, everyone on the planet towered over her.
Alice smiled as the girl complimented her and said she would look beautiful. She blushed as she tended to do when complimented. Even if it was her own parents she would blush. That was when she was most shy, when being complimented. She just always felt so flattered when someone thought she was pretty. She did need people to tell her that often. She had problems with self-confidence and stuff. "You are just too sweet Emmy. And of course you should be excited to see me there. I am a whole lot of fun." she said adding in a sweet smile and a small giggle. "I just hope I don't have to do any prefect duties." she said. She hated to have to keep an eye on everyone during these events. She would rather have fun. But she knew it was her responsibility to make sure her fellow students stayed out of trouble.
Alice smiled as the girl rambled. That was usually Alice so she quite enjoyed the rambling of her friend. Alice listened, it was what she was best at. She analyzed the girl throughout the whole time. Her facial expressions and voice would give away more to the story. Alice widened her eyes. "Wait? You started to date Sirius while you were with his brother?" she said shocked that Em would do something like that but it was love. And love did crazy things to you. Alice knew that better than anyone. "Don't mistake that statement for me judging you because I swear I was not." she added in quickly and nervously knowing how her other comment must've sounded in Emmelia's ears. "What happened when Regulus and Sirius found out? Did they find out?" she asked curiously. Now she was really interested in what Emmelia was saying. This probably would make the top most dramatic situations in the life of her friends. And the girl obviously needed someone to talk to about it. And that girl would be Alice.

"I know what was I thinking! I should've checked a while ago!" Emmelia laughed. She enjoyed poking fun at the girl, but it was all in good fun. There was something about Alice that was so inviting. She was a very friendly girl and that's how she always had been. She could remember the first time she met Alice, it was their first year and she was on her way to potions class. When some Slytherin boy shoved the girl in front of her. Emmelia cursed at the boy and helped the girl pick up her books, ever since then the two became almost inseparable. Alice and her had just instantly clicked from the beginning.
"Well, there's this little muggle shop in London that no one from here really knows about. The lady was super nice and it was the only one of its kind, and I had to buy it." Emmelia told Alice. It was a small little shop in London, and it was tucked into the corner of some alleyway. Which sounded really shady but at the same time when you entered it, it was gorgeous and wasn't filthy at all. "I am not. I love you, Alice, why would I lie about you being beautiful? And you are just a little bundle of fun." Chuckles at the small joke. "God, I hope you don't either, that would be awful."
Emmelia wasn't expecting a great reaction to what she told Alice. "There's no need to apologize, Alice. It was a horrible thing of me to do to both of them." She told her friend. "But, yes, I dated them both. Even though I meant to break it off with Regulus when we started out. When I saw him though, for some reason I just couldn't do it." She looked down at her hands. She was ashamed for what she had done, and she made the brother's relationship ten times worse than what it was. "I told Sirius first, he was upset, but was understanding that I needed to make a decision. When I told Regulus...well...it wasn't pretty..." She swallowed hard and shook her head her eyes tearing up a little. "In the long run I knew Sirius was the right choice for me...but I miss Regulus...it's just hard to watch him ruin his life now that I'm out of his supposed picture. He won't even talk to me." She was off in her own world now. With that she blinked a couple of times and attempted to calm down, "I'm sorry to throw this all on you, Alice."

She smiled as the girl poked fun at her. They were close enough that Alice never took it personally. She remembered the first time they met. Alice was just a first year rushing to her first class not wanting to be late. Some rude boy pushed her down in the hall. She heard a girl from behind curse at the boy and help her. Alice was surprised that the girl was a Slytherin but hid her shock. Ever since then the two got along. They were almost inseperable. It took a lot to get between these two girls. Always exploring and causing trouble together. Something Alice would have to stop doing because of her new responsibilities. But let's face it, Alice's curiousity would surely get her killed one day. She was sure Emmelia was the reason that she never judged someone based on their house.
Alice nodded as the girl explained. "That sounds lovely. I am so curious now." she said with a smile. Then again Alice was curious about pretty much everything. Alice felt herself blush again at Em's comment. Just by someone else saying it made her feel as if it was true. Even if it was her friend. Because usually friends always thought their friends were beautiful. "Thanks."she said shyly as she twirled a strand of her brown hair. She chuckled at the joke that Em made. She nodded. "The last thing I want to do is break up a fight or have to give someone a hard time. I rather not concentrate on others when I want to concentrate on my friends or finding a cute single guy." she said with a small shy giggle at the last part. Even though dating should really be the last thing on her mind after everything.
She nodded as Emmelia told her not to apologize for her statement. She watched the girl as she looked down in shame. Alice looked at the poor thing with sympathy. She hated seeing her friends in pain. She wanted to listen to the whole thing before putting in any input. She noticed the girl try to hold back tears and apologize for throwing it all on her. Alice wrapped her arms around the girl and pulled her into a tight comforting hug. She rubbed her back calming her down. "Don't apologize darling. It's no problem."she said softly to the girl. She wanted to help Em. After all Emmelia was always there for Alice so she should be there to help the girl.
"Well if Sirius was more understanding then you made the right choice." she said reassuringly to keep the girl from feeling more guilty than she already did. "And about what Regulus is doing now, well I hate to say it but there's nothing you can really do. The most you can do is try to get on good terms again. But I know it wouldn't be easy. Might not even be possible from what you told me." she said. This was the best advice she could give from what she knew. "But knowing you, you will find a way to fix it Emmelia, you always do." she said with a reassuring smile. The best thing she could think of doing was giving the taller Slytherin confidence. Maybe if the girl believed in herself strongly enough then she may succeed. Sure, that may be a naive idea, but the best thing they could have was hope.

"I am sure you will find plenty of cute guys at the dance, Alice. Who knows perhaps someone shall spike the punch and you can get drunk for once in your teenage life." Emmelia chuckled jokingly. Emmelia had never seen Alice drink alcohol and she thought that it would be a very interesting sight to see. She hoped that one of the naughty Slytherins of her house would bring some alcohol and spike the punch. It was much needed that the kids would get drunk, and the Professors that were going to chaperone were idiots anyways.
The tears were beginning to let loose and she couldn't fight the eruption when Alice hugged her. "Oh, Alice, I was so stupid..." She sniffled. "A bloody freakin' idiot...I broke not just one of their hearts but both of theirs! And Sirius told me that he loved me, he has never ever said that to any other girl in the past, and you know his past...he said he loved me, and I love him so much, I can't believe I almost let him go." The waterworks were just beginning and before she knew it she was crying all over Alice.
"I ran into Regulus at the Three Broomsticks the other night, well, we got into it really bad, and he was drunk. Sirius showed up out of nowhere and before I knew it I told Regulus I was completely done with him, and I miss him so much, Alice. He was one of my best friends. I've known him all my life and I told him to kill himself with his career choice." She was rambling really bad now. Everything she was feeling over the two Black's were just coming out, and she didn't know how to stop. "It takes so much to push me over the edge and he just shoved me completely over and beyond. Before that when I told him in the library he grabbed me so hard I still have a light bruise from it. Sirius called him a woman beater for it, and oh my god, Alice, it's such a bloody mess..."

She smiled at Emmelia, she couldn't help but believe the optimism she offered. There were bound to be cute single guys, at least she hoped so. If not, then that would truly suck. She laughed at the second half. "Oh goodness gracious, can you even imagine me drunk. I think it would be the funniest thing ever." she said with a small giggle at the thought of it. Even though she was joking. Girls like her, the very responsable prefect kind, never got drunk until they were of age. She had never drunk underage, she knew it was goody goody, but she went by the law. But if someone spiked the punch and she was unaware that would be an acception. At least she hoped so. She wouldn't want to get in trouble for something she was unaware of. Unless all the chaperones also got drunk. Now that was a funny thought that she never wanted to be out of her head.
It broke Alice's heart to see Emmelia cry like this. She just wanted to run into the Slytherin Common Room now and yell at Regulus for doing this to the poor girl. But now the girl needed comfort from a friend. She rubbed her back, as her own mother did to Alice when she was little to calm her down. "Wait, Sirius Black said he loved you? Sorry I am just a bit shocked. He has never really been the commitment type, you know." she said in disbeleif but was happy for her friend. "But you didn't let him go, that's what matters darling. Is he still upset at all about what happened?" she asked her. She had to point out to Em that she did choose Sirius, so it wasn't like she made a wrong choice. It was smart to have to think about it, at least she told them both instead of keeping it a secret.
Alice felt Emmelia cry more, making Alice's heart break more for her friend. She listened to the girl ramble, she had a hard time to make out some of it considering the tears and the rambling. But what she could make out was that Regulus was drunk, Emmelia said something horrible to him that she regrets. "Wait, I know it's sort of late for this question, but what occupation does he want?" Alice asked confused. Even though knowing the house and what Emmelia said she could already guess it was something bad. Like a Death Eater. But she would rather not jump to conclusions and know for sure. When Alice heard about what Regulus did she couldn't help but feel angry. "Did he do it on purpose?" she asked holding back anger even though it was obviously in her eyes. She felt horrible for her friend and wished there was more she could do.

Emmelia laughed at the thought about Alice being drunk. The girl was already a riot when she was sober, Emmelia just couldn't imagine what she would be like. It would be like Alice on drugs, or something. The thought was just mind boggling to her. "Alice, it would be a sight to see." She calmed down a little bit. It would be really great to see Alice just let loose and be completely free. Not have to worry about her Prefect duties and such, it would just be a very interesting sight.
"I know that's why I was shocked when he said it. There's still that little part in the back of my mind that says he could be going around with other girls, that he really isn't the commitment type. I don't know though, Alice. There's also something telling me that this could be it." Emmelia cleared up a little bit so that she was able to talk to her friend straight. "I'm sure he's upset, but I can also tell that he is trying to get over it, and move on along with me. I just feel horrible for what I've done. I have never been the one to attempt to please my pureblooded elitist family, and I began to question my beliefs, my actions, my whole self..."
Emmelia could still feel the knot on the back of her head from where Regulus threw her into the door at Hogsmeade. It made her flinch slightly back at the thought of it. "What occupation do most pureblooded elitist male Slytherins want, Alice?" Emmelia didn't want to completely sell him out, but she needed to tell her too. Emmelia took in a deep breath and nodded, "I pushed him too far and he grabbed me and threw me into the door. I got a slight concussion and my head was bleeding from the back...thank god Sirius was there."

Alice listened to what Emmelia said about her and Sirius. About the feeling that it could be it, it could be everything she had been waiting for. Alice, being a hopeless romantic, believed in true love. That there was someone out there for everyone. "It's not a completely far fetched thought. After all there is someone out there for everyone. Sirius could be your soulmate." she said. Just by saying that she felt incredibly naive and stupid. She knew the world didn't work like that. That life wasn't written out for you. That you had to take it in your own hands. But Alice did like to think that there was some sort of greater power controlling things like destiny and fate. That everything happens for a reason to complete a huge picture. And love was something that was controlled by fate.
Alice nodded, she knew Em never was one to try to please people by not being herself. She was against pureblood ideals and such. Alice wanted to ask why she did it then. But it was a personal question. Also kind of dumb. They were her parents, everyone tried to please their parents at some point in their lives. Alice loved being a prefect for the reason that it pleased her parents and made them proud. Maybe Emmelia just wanted to be accepted by her own family. Not like Alice could blame her. Everyone wanted to feel like they belonged and weren't a complete outcast, even by their own kin.
Emmelia had a point, the answer was pretty obvious. of course he wanted to be a follower of the new rising dark wizard. Alice knew it was ridiculous to be afraid of even stating a name, but she did get a bad vibe from this one. Despite her fear she did try to state his name. "Sorry, just didn't want to jump to any conlcusions." she said trying to defend herself. She gasped and covered her mouth at what came out next. She felt her hands fall to her sides and clench into fists. Her nails were stabbing her own palms, she was trying to hold in anger. Alice didn't seem like the angry type but once pushed to it she had a horrible temper. "He had no right to do that! I get that he was upset but he can't just do that! You could've been seriously hurt or have serious brain damage. Just because it wasn't anything to serious doesn't make it okay! I just want to go find him and give him a piece of my mind!" Alice ranted feeling herself getting very protective over her friend. She knew she had to calm down but the anger was building.
