But there ain't no way to win. She is a lot like Reno! She didn’t think she was the type to be good at card games, and this was certainly not the place in which she should be attempting to become a card novice either. Her blue eyes flicked around the table that held her fellow opponents. None of them looked the least bit harmless. Perhaps it was sheer fact that she did look harmless that saw her safe in the company of those considered un-savory. She truly stood out amongst the crude cliental of the infamous Hogs Head. Normally she wouldn’t have step foot in such an establishment; however it held some of the attributes that she was seeking in an establishment. Hogs Head was both highly un-popular and practically desolate which meant one thing and one thing only to Hannah, There was no chance of running into students from Hogwarts there.. Today she was the youngest patron and perhaps the only one that didn’t come there to get sloshed drunk, no she came there with the hopes and interest in breaking into the card game that always seemed to be going on. She had studied them, and the game. Tonight Hannah finally felt confident enough in her abilities to attempt to enter the game. Her entry fee was two potions that she had spent a better part of the last week preparing. Hannah didn’t think the hag and wizards would accept the potions as an entry fee, but it seemed that lower cliental didn’t object too much they just asked for a sample to make sure that the potions worked.. Hannah only offered them a sample of her Beautification Potion, as she knew what would happen if they sampled her Drought of living death. They seemed pleased offer which she was a bit surprised about.. She was thankful that Professor Slughorn had been kind enough to offer her a bit of advice on her Beautification Potion, granted it was after a stern lecture about embracing her natural beauty. He seemed a bit more content to aid her when he found out she was just simply making a batch to see if she could make something comparable the one he brewed in their class. Hannah knew enough about Professor Slughorn to know not to tell him that she was brewing potions for the sheer purpose of weaseling in on a card game. It seemed his advice was well worth the time it took to butter him up as the suggestion to brew it in the fresh light of a sunrise made the potion more powerful something Hannah noticed when the Hag was no longer a hag, but a looker the moment after she had a sip of her potion. Within an hour of entering the game Hannah found she was actually quite adapt at playing it as its main strategy was bluffing out the other opponents, and not to mention the only one posed as an actual adversary didn’t realize she could see the reflection of his cards in his spectacles. She knew what she was doing was cheating but when it came down to a pocket full of Gold it was a means to an end after all Hannah learned a long time ago that Karma was fairy tale and there was no cost in deception when it was for personal gain, so with that nod to moral creed she cheated her way to a nights winning that was 36 Galleons, 15 Sickles, 4 knuts, 2 enchanted buttons and two lovely potions. The bartender seemed to gather she was counting cards, and after a sip of truth serum her innocence to that crime was exonerated. So with a pocket full of gold she found herself outside the moon out and not a care to the world around as she started the long track back to the school. She paused just outside the Tree broomsticks debating the worth of a butter beer or a fire whiskey on a night that had proved to be perfect. So strange that just that slight pause, and the time it took to consider a drink would put her in the path of one that would completely uproot life as she knew it.. So sad that fate could turn in just a blink of an eye that everything she knew about herself would be challenged by a boy who’s name was as black as night.
