Lucius was filled with pride. He had done it.
Narcissa’s eyes sparkled with beautiful tears of happiness and she began to lay claim on his lips with a million tender kisses. Normally he didn’t like kissing this much, it felt too affectionate. To be honest, Narcissa was the only girl he allowed himself to kiss this many times. With other girls he had flung with and dated, they were only ever so lucky to receive a kiss a day. But there was something that felt right when Narcissa’s gentle little lips were against his, something that caused a warmth to burgeon from the depth of his chest and spread through the rest of his body like wildfire. Perhaps that was one reason he knew why that Narcissa would become a permanent part of his life.
He shouldn’t have doubted her intelligence -- she seemed to have understand the gesture and was overjoyed. He wondered if that was proposal enough for her, if he should ever consider trying a different form. It was strange how he felt about the idea of committing himself to someone. In some ways the proposal didn’t seem romantic enough, and in other ways it did. It was unorthodox. Perhaps she liked that. He would figure out the details later. He also couldn’t deny the feeling of fear that overcame him. He didn’t know how to make one person happy for the rest of their life. He could just wing it; but, this wasn’t just any other person.
This was his Cissy.
The clouds overhead suddenly boomed within the sky and soon after they spilled their wetness onto the earth below. Narcissa immediately flew up, unwillingly pulling Lucius with her, and tried to scamper toward the castle. It was such like a woman, he mused, to be so cautious of the rain. Lucius stood and nonchalantly walked over to her. He untied his hand from her, and wrapped the unused silk around part of her wrist and hand before tying it off again. He was telling her to keep it. Perhaps until he could find a better engagement gift.
Lucius’ eyes glanced up toward the rain and then back down on her. It didn’t take long for either of them to be soaked. Everyone was screaming and running toward the inside, but all he could find himself doing was staring at her. In one of those rare moments, he smiled. And in one of those even rarer moments, he looked at her and said: [green]“Even soaking wet, you still look beautiful.”[/green]
He unceremoniously picked her up, like a groom would his bride, and walked her toward the castle. He went at his own pace, holding her tightly against him, and every so often glanced at the people that ran past him, giving him strange looks. But, in his heart, he knew they were jealous. They all wished that their loved ones would do the same for them. They wished they could be the one that Lucius was carrying so lovely into the castle.
But that honor was given to one woman and one woman only. Lucius was entirely content with that.
